I get it.
However, that is only part of the story. If you mask symptoms, you are likely going to 'feel better', but will also overdo it in the process, thus recreating the symptoms they were trying to avoid. Talk about setbacks!

Both have their advantages. Free weight allow you to control the movement without the aid of a machine. It can be beneficial if you're well-trained or are challenging yourself. Machines are also nice because they can offset heavy loads and protect you as you move throughout your workout.
Vary it up, but be safe and realistic with your lifting goals.

For most people, having a light carb meal is ideal. Easily digestible carbs like fruit will do wonders for you.
Protein is good for muscle sparing processes, but wont' be utilized during a workout the way carbs can.
Fat is slow-digesting and would be well avoided.
Save your protein and fats for after the workout.

Or, you might need to switch up your routine, so that you don't overdo certain movements, which can have lasting impacts down the road.

Fitness routines should be chosen on what you need in your life, as well as your abilities. Steady state cardio is low-impact and shouldn't have a negative impact on your joints. HIIT will burn more calories, but leave you fatigued later in the day.
Chose what you love, love what you do - but always listen to your body.
