DID YOU KNOW? πŸ’‘

The same adjustment that helps your child's body heal from physical injury also supports their ability to emotionally regulate and feel calm!

This is because the nervous system controls EVERYTHING - not just movement and sensation, but also stress response, emotional regulation, and the ability to feel safe in your body.

How upper cervical subluxations affect emotional regulation:
The atlas (C1) surrounds your brainstem - specifically the area that houses your autonomic nervous system control center. When subluxations create pressure or interference here, it's like having static on the communication line between your brain and body.

What happens when this communication is disrupted: 🧠 Body stays in "high alert" mode even when safe 🧠 Heart rate stays elevated 🧠 Stress hormones remain high 🧠 Ability to calm and regulate decreases 🧠 Everything feels more threatening than it is
The beautiful part: Just as addressing subluxations helps your child's body heal from a sprained ankle, addressing upper cervical subluxations helps their nervous system return to balanced regulation.

What parents notice: "My child seems calmer overall, not just during adjustments but throughout their days and weeks. They can handle frustration better and don't just go straight to meltdown mode."

If you think your kiddo (or you) might need a 'mood adjustment' hop on our schedule!

What we call 'anxiety symptoms' in children are actually signs their nervous system is stuck in survival mode 🧠

PHYSICAL SYMPTOMS: Stomachaches β†’ Vagus nerve affecting digestion Headaches β†’ Muscle tension from stress response Difficulty breathing β†’ Shallow breathing in fight/flight Racing heart β†’ Sympathetic activation Trouble sleeping β†’ System can't shift to rest mode Frequent illness β†’ Chronic stress suppresses immunity

EMOTIONAL SYMPTOMS: Irritability β†’ Nervous system on high alert Big meltdowns β†’ Overwhelmed regulation capacity Difficulty calming β†’ Stuck in sympathetic state Separation anxiety β†’ Safety signals not processing Excessive worry β†’ Threat detection overactive Mood swings β†’ Poor nervous system flexibility

BEHAVIORAL SYMPTOMS: Aggression β†’ Fight response activation Withdrawal β†’ Freeze response pattern Rigidity β†’ Need for control when feeling unsafe Difficulty with change β†’ Transitions feel threatening Perfectionism β†’ Anxiety channeled into control Avoidance β†’ Protective behavior from perceived threat

THE NERVOUS SYSTEM CONNECTION:
All of these symptoms come from the same source: a nervous system that can't regulate properly between states of alertness and calm.
Where subluxations create problems: The upper cervical spine (especially C1 and C2) directly affects the brainstem's ability to regulate the autonomic nervous system. Birth stress, falls, injuries, and accumulated tension can all create subluxations in this critical area.

What addressing nervous system function does: βœ… Supports ability to shift from stressed to calm βœ… Reduces physical symptoms of anxiety βœ… Improves emotional regulation capacity βœ… Decreases reactivity to triggers βœ… Helps child access "safe and social" state βœ… Improves sleep and overall nervous system flexibility

Children's nervous systems are incredibly adaptable. When we remove subluxations interfering with regulation, they often show remarkable improvement in both emotional control and physical symptoms.

Share this with parents of anxious kids! And if you are an anxious parent, let's help get you out of fight/flight/freeze too!

When your pediatrician has ruled out dietary causes but your baby is still struggling with constipation, it's time to look at nervous system function 🧠

NERVOUS SYSTEM FACTORS:
Upper Cervical Subluxations: Affect vagus nerve signals to intestines β†’ Poor coordination of intestinal contractions β†’ Slow movement of stool

Sacral Misalignments: Interfere with pelvic nerve function β†’ Weak elimination signals β†’ Difficulty coordinating pushing/release

Overall Nervous System Stress: Keeps baby in "fight or flight" mode β†’ Digestion shuts down as non-essential β†’ Constipation worsens

Birth Stress Patterns: Creates tension through entire spine β†’ Multiple nerve pathways affected β†’ Whole digestive system struggles

How to tell if nervous system is the missing piece: 🚩 Dietary changes help a little but don't solve it 🚩 Baby strains even when stool is soft 🚩 Pattern started shortly after birth 🚩 Baby shows other stress signs (poor sleep, fussiness) 🚩 Difficult or assisted birth history

What addressing nervous system function can do: βœ… Restore proper nerve signals to intestines βœ… Support natural peristalsis (wave-like contractions) βœ… Help baby's body shift from stressed to regulated βœ… Improve overall digestive coordination βœ… Create sustainable, comfortable bowel patterns

The brain controls everything - including the complex coordination needed for your baby to have regular, comfortable bowel movements without struggle.

Sometimes the answer isn't what goes IN your baby, but whether their nervous system can coordinate what comes OUT πŸ’š

Your baby's gut has its own nervous system (called the enteric nervous system), but it needs clear communication from the brain to work properly πŸ‘Ά

Understanding your baby's digestive nervous system:
Most parents don't realize their baby's gut is packed with nerve cells that control digestion. But here's the key: this "gut brain" needs direction from the actual brain through the vagus nerve.

What needs to happen for comfortable digestion:
✨ Brain sends "rest and digest" signals through vagus nerve
✨ Gut's nervous system receives these signals clearly
✨ Intestinal muscles contract in coordinated waves
✨ Sphincters open and close at the right times
✨ Waste moves smoothly through the system

Where birth stress creates problems: Birth creates physical stress on the skull base, upper cervical spine, and sacrum - exactly where digestive nerves emerge and travel. When subluxations develop in these areas, the communication between brain and gut gets disrupted.

What disrupted gut-brain communication looks like: ❌ Inconsistent bowel movements (too often or not enough) ❌ Painful straining even with soft stool ❌ Excessive gas that can't move through ❌ Discomfort and crying during or after feeds ❌ Body tension from digestive stress

What we assess: We check for subluxations at the skull base (where vagus nerve emerges), throughout the spine (where digestive nerves travel), and at the sacrum (where elimination nerves coordinate).

When we address these subluxations with gentle care, babies' digestive systems can finally coordinate the way they're designed to. Regular, comfortable bowel movements become normal instead of a struggle.

The brain controls everything - including the intricate dance of nerve signals your baby needs for healthy digestion πŸ’š
