To witness the ceremony of birth, to be present as you became a mother and a family, and as your baby took their first breath, is an honor beyond words.

Birth is a ceremony unlike any other. Each experience is sacred, and we hold every story with deep respect.

We come to this work with humility and gratitude, thankful to continue serving San Diego.

A Family Affair is the last freestanding birth center in San Diego, and we carry this responsibility seriously. We believe this option must remain available, and we are grateful for another year of serving our community.

“ The most lovely midwifery! Bringing new life into this world is such a blessing, but it’s also frightening to a new mom (at least for me). I was naive, but I knew is that a chilly hospital wasn’t for me and an at home birth was also a bit scary. I wasn’t sure what to expect at a birth center, but it’s the perfect mix of the two with heavy emphasis on the at home feeling. Every bit of my experience was lovely. I always felt very welcome, wanted, and cared about at every single one of my appointments and then when it was time to give birth, while my birth wasn’t “traditional” in the sense, the midwife team was incredible through all of it! I welcomed a sweet baby with the best team in the best environment and I’d do it all again. Thank you to Tamara and her team 1000000 times over. “

A Family Affair Birth Center:

We’re thrilled to welcome Jess to our team at A Family Affair Birth Center!
A San Diego native, Jess first discovered her passion for bodywork after a competitive swimming injury. She graduated from Mueller College of Holistic Studies in 2003 and went on to study exercise science, nutrition, and kinesiology/athletic training. Her skills include massage therapy, herbal and essential oil use, sound bowl healing, and vitamin IV therapy.

Jess’s heart eventually turned toward supporting expecting families, and she has been attending births since 2007—becoming a Licensed Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife in 2015. She currently runs a private practice in East County and brings a wealth of experience in supporting physiological labor, birth, and postpartum.

When she’s not on call, Jess loves time with family, cheering on her nephews at sports events, traveling with friends, enjoying live music, riding quads in the desert, and snowboarding in the winter. We can’t wait for you to meet her in the clinic!
