I am a personal trainer, group fitness instructor and a spin instructor. I have always loved to work out and after years of attending classes as well as doing my own workouts, I decided to get certified so I can help others on their journey to better health. Before having kids I worked full time as a pharmacist and witnessed the obesity epidemic. I thought helping people incorporate exercise and better food choices would be a great way to help. After I had kids I only worked as a per diem pharmacist to stay home with my kids, but once they started in school I had more time to start this new path.

This was a great learning experience for me. It helped me realize that there is more going on than someone just choosing to not exercise and eating poorly in our obesity epidemic. I would see people work so hard but still struggled to get the weight off. Once I started studying functional medicine I understood why. There are many things that interfere with how our body should function. Foods, toxicities, metabolic diseases, nutrient deficiencies all play a role in how our bodies and brains function. This carries over to how we can address ADHD as well.

The Ah-ha Moment That Changed Everything

Most people who experience ADHD try the typical things to correct the issue like go to therapy and take medication.

While these things are known to help many people and can be an important part of the solution…

What I have realized is that they are missing one key component to solving the root cause of the problem.

Understanding this was the one thing that really changed things for me and when someone continues to struggle with attention issues I make it a priority.

Eliminating food triggers is one of the big things that solves the problem because the body will react to food in a good way or a bad way. Figuring out what those triggers are takes some time and not everyone will react the same.

That is what is so important about Functional Medicine. Everyone will not always benefit from the same thing so each person needs to work through things individually.

So if you are really struggling with ADHD consider eliminating food triggers because what I know for sure is it has worked for countless clients…

If You Are Feeling Lost Start HERE

Too often we start with the difficult things before we have mastered the foundational things…
Then we lose our way and all our efforts seem to have been for nothing…

If you feel like you are starting from square one
If you are feeling a little lost and can’t quite get your bearings…

If your day or week took an unexpected turn and all your best laid plans for change have gone out the window…

Do this ONE thing…

Get a good night's sleep!!

That means getting in bed by 10 -10:30 for adults and even earlier for kids.
Adults need about 7-8 hours of sleep.
Kids need between 10-12 hours of sleep and teenagers need at least 9 hours of sleep.
It may not feel like much… but never underestimate the power of this one simple action.

It can help you feel energized and focused which is the BEST place to start

(Oh and in case you have forgotten - perfection is not a thing we do here so just leave that behind…)

And just a reminder: This is not a race. This is about permanent change over time.

There will always be things that have the potential to derail your progress

Soooo control what you can and don’t worry about what you can’t…

And if you need to start small, start with this one thing.

When You Have “One Of Those Days”...

Reversing ADHD symptoms is not a linear event…

It’s not like you wake up one day and you NEVER have to deal with ADHD ever again…

This is important to remember when you feel like you or your child is having a breakthrough or several days or weeks where you feel like hyperactivity or inability to focus is completely in your past…

And then seemingly out-of-the-blue…

You feel like you are back at step one.

But this couldn’t be further from the truth…

Setbacks are a part of the process.

Having a setback doesn’t mean that you have done anything wrong or that your process or plan is not working...

It just means that you are having an off day.

And one off day or off week does not need to turn into a permanent setback.

When I have an off day I do two things

First, I offer myself grace and remind myself that perfectionism is not helpful in these situations

Second, I step back and honestly evaluate the situation and any extenuating circumstances…

Was I more tired than usual? Have I been sticking to my foundational habits? Was there something that could have contributed to the setback?

This helps me to take my eyes off the things I can’t control and put them back on the things that I can control…which helps me to reset and begin again.

If you are feeling like you are in the middle of a setback… do this one thing: Take 5 minutes and do a focused breathwork meditation so you can start to feel calm and back in charge quickly.

What are you putting in your mouth or feeding your kids? Many parents do not see the connection between food and behavior. I see posts all the time from parents about how their kids will only eat this or that and usually it's processed foods that has little or not nutritional value but high in calories. I get it! It's hard sometimes to get kids to eat healthy...but the alternative is no better. Many processed foods contain artificial colors, preservatives and emulsifies that can directly impact the brain and the gut microbiome. What You Believe MAY not be True...

There are a lot of misconceptions that exist around different ways to treat ADHD...

Before I knew any better I thought the only way to improve focus and productivity was to

Point 1 Take medication
Point 2 Drink Lots of Caffeine
Point 3 Go to Therapy

I even heard these things from other professionals and was taught them in school

BUT what I have learned after helping clients get results is that there are three main things that need to be focused on to address the many contributors to ADHD symptoms

Method Step # 1 Feed the brain the food it needs for optimal function
Method Step # 2 Take away the things that can be interfering with brain function
Method Step # 3 Train the brain to form new neural pathways

Following these three steps and seeing the results they provide has helped me to understand that just taking medication doesn’t cut it for me anymore…

Let’s Just Call It What It Is...You Feel FRAZZLED and it needs to stop…

First...breathe…(no really...take a deep breath in and out...it helps!)

I’ve been there and so have countless others...and we got through this and you will too...

I know it seems like that might not be possible in the moment and that’s ok…

But...I want you to consider these simple steps that you can take to start feeling like you are back in control and moving forward...,

It may not happen today...it certainly won’t happen all at once...but baby steps will get you there…

How do I know…?

I’ve been there...I’ve felt every emotion you are feeling and If someone had told me I would feel the way I do today I probably would have laughed at them…

But the truth is there IS a way forward and I am proof of that so when you are ready send me a message and I will be there...

Are You Trying To Patch ADHD Instead of Fixing it?

When life gets busy, we often resort to patching our problems instead of fixing them...

When we have no energy we drink more coffee...

When we can’t sleep we take a sleeping pill…

While this gives us temporary relief..it does nothing to actually fix the issue.

When it comes to calming ADHD behavioral issues and improving focus, patching the problem may only help part of the problem and may even make the problem worse!

It is so important to spend your resources on things that will get to the root cause of what is triggering the problem vs. continuing to spend your time, money and energy focused on temporary results.

What Popular Solutions For ADHD Have You Tried?

There are a lot of therapy options available out there to treat ADHD.

Which ones have you tried?

What kinda-sorta-worked for a bit but didn’t give you the lasting results you were hoping for?

What did you try that you only ended up sticking with for a day or two?

The reason these popular solutions rarely offer lasting results is because they are not getting to the root cause of the problem...so it’s like bailing out a leaky boat and never actually fixing the hole in the bottom…

Have you ever heard the expression “Success leaves clues”?

Yep. I would *almost* argue that failure leaves more clues than success...so guess what?
