Thank you to RayAnn Hessenthaler, who by the way happens to be an outstanding OB nurse & coordinator here at PVHC, for sharing her message of hope and the importance of contrast-enhanced mammography!
“Having a strong family history of breast cancer means living with a constant, quiet fear in the background of everyday life. Losing my mother to breast cancer three years ago at the young age of 64 made that fear very real. It changed how I think about my own health, my future, and the importance of early detection. I am 39, an age when I shouldn’t be worrying about breast cancer and screening, but I have to because of my family history. I started screening early with a mammogram this fall. My mammogram was clear, but it was recommended that because of my dense breast tissue I should have a breast MRI. Not having access to breast MRI locally, I found myself looking elsewhere. When I heard the news within months of having my mammogram that contrast-enhanced mammography was coming to PVHC, I was ecstatic!!
Contrast-enhanced mammography gives me something I didn’t have before, reassurance. Knowing this technology can detect cancers that might be missed by traditional imaging helps me feel seen, protected, and taken seriously as someone at higher risk. It’s not just about advanced equipment—it’s about peace of mind.
This technology gives me confidence that if something changes, it has a better chance of being caught early, when treatment options are greater and outcomes can be better. After watching someone I love fight and lose to this disease, that knowledge is incredibly powerful.
Contrast-enhanced mammography represents hope to me—hope that my story can be different, hope that vigilance matters, and hope that technology can help turn fear into proactive care and empowerment.
The gals in radiology were amazing as always! Lauren, Sam, and Katie were kind, knowledgeable, and made the experience less daunting. They were quick, explained everything they were doing, and got me in and out. Way to go PVHC for bringing the newest technology to our town to give peace of mind to young women like me!”
