Healthcare isn’t a one-and-done appointment… it’s a journey.

At the Free Clinic of Powhatan, the first visit is just the beginning. From chronic disease management and mental health counseling to dental care, nutrition education, and specialty referrals, we walk alongside our patients every step of the way.

Continuity of care isn’t just a best practice, it’s how lives change. It means fewer ER visits, better outcomes, stronger trust, and real stability for uninsured and Medicaid patients in our community.

Love is in the air... and in our mission 💖

This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the couples who share more than just a date night, they share a heart for our community. From serving side by side to supporting patients together, these partnerships remind us that caring for our neighbors is better when it’s done together.

At the Free Clinic of Powhatan, love looks like showing up, lending a hand, and building a healthier community, one *relationship* at a time. 😉

Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us at FCP!

Yesterday Elizabeth, our Executive Director, and Samantha, Development Manager, advocated and discussed the importance of free and charitable clinics with the General Assembly in Richmond.

It was a great opportunity to speak directly with policymakers! We met with Senator Luther Ciphers, Senator Glenn Sturtevant, Delegate Debra Gardner, and staff of Delegate Delores McQuinn along with 804HealthNet & Virginia Association of Free & Charitable Clinics.

See Rufus Phillips, CEO of Association of Free & Charitable Clinics, guest column in Richmond Times Dispatch this week! We are honored to be Powhatan, Amelia, Cumberland and Chesterfield's health safety net.

"The math is straightforward; do we invest in clinics to manage a patient’s hypertension or diabetes in a clinic setting, or wait for them to suffer a crisis and pay $2,500 (or more) for an emergency room visit that the taxpayer or the hospital eventually absorbs? Research shows that when people lack insurance, they delay care, leading to avoidable hospitalizations and often crushing medical debt."

That means your investment in our care keeps neighbors healthier and working to better our community.

Free and charitable clinics are vital to the health of our community and economy. Still, rising health care costs, coupled with inadequate state funding and increased patient demand, have put their sustainability at risk. It’s an alarming situation for Virginia’s health care safety net. But it's...
