Ever notice puckering or “pleating” in facelift photos immediately after surgery? 👀

This is something patients sometimes notice when bandages come off — especially with today’s deep plane facelift techniques.

Dr. Vargas explains why this can happen ⬇️

With a deep plane facelift, the midface tissues are lifted much more powerfully than older techniques. That increased mobility means there can be extra skin that needs to be carefully redraped, and if there’s too much excess in one area, it can temporarily pleat or fold.

One way surgeons help address this is with a temporal brow lift ✨

By lifting the outer brow and temple area:
• It helps smooth tension above the facelift incision
• It can reduce pleating in the skin
• It may allow for smaller or more limited incisions during procedures like upper blepharoplasty

A surgeon recently shared that her patient was put under general anesthesia before seeing her — and Dr. Vargas explains why that would never happen in her practice.

Why do some people look like a different person after lower eyelid surgery? 👀

In video, Dr. Lam points out something called canthal distortion—when the outer corner of the eye (where the upper and lower eyelids meet) is altered and changes the natural shape of the eye.

Dr. Vargas agrees with this, and explains that not all lower eyelid surgeries are performed the same way, and overly tightening the lower lid can sometimes change the natural appearance of the eyes.

In many cases, Dr. Vargas prefers a more conservative approach:
