Beautiful sunrise to celebrate two new little humans born. One by the warm kerosene glow at home, the other in a warm pool at the birth center. Loving this baby storm! Hopefully Mickey Mouse will capture my littles attention enough for me to nap for an hour or two on the couch!

Cheers to a second baby catch in a week, another nuchal tangled cord! Remember when I wondered where the babies were? They’re coming! Left before bedtime, home before 9 AM. Enjoying some mushroom coffee and some cuddles from my boys. It was also -8 this morning… hopefully it gets above zero in a few days.

When words are ignored, a swift kick could do the trick too. Aggressive perineal massage as baby is making their descent is not as helpful as once believed. It may increase to vaginal swelling and can cause more pain than needed during the second stage and could possibly increase the chance of tearing. Evidence based birth has a piece on perineal massage. I’m not knocking it completely, but I’ve seen it way over done (and even done with baby soap 🤮) and done so aggressively it distracts mom from doing the hard work of pushing baby out. This is definitely not necessary and is one thing you do not need to consent to if it doesn’t feel right.

Happy 1st birthday to this little dude who was almost born in my car. 3 weeks “late”, not even 6 lbs, shot out like a rocket, absolutely perfect - even to this day. Driving way too fast on slippery icy roads, whipping into the birth center while holding mom’s hand in the front seat (while she’s pushing) was one of the most heart racing moments as a doula, but a memory maker for sure!! Don’t trust those 2nd labors folks!! 🤣😌😍😎
