October is National Protect Your Hearing Month!
At Riskwise Safety Consulting, we’re joining the CDC’s National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in raising awareness about noise exposure and hearing protection.
Noise-induced hearing loss is permanent, but 100% preventable.
Whether on the job, at a concert, or using power tools at home, protecting your hearing should always be part of your safety routine.
Why It Matters
• Exposure to noise above 85 A-weighted decibels (dBA) for extended periods can cause hearing damage.
• Once hearing is lost, it cannot be restored.
• Excessive noise doesn’t just affect hearing, it can lead to fatigue, stress, and reduced alertness, increasing the risk of workplace accidents.
How to Protect Your Hearing
• Wear hearing protection (earplugs or earmuffs) whenever you’re in loud environments.
• Limit your exposure time and take quiet breaks throughout the day.
• Lower the volume on personal devices and equipment when possible.
• Assess and control workplace noise; use engineering controls, quieter tools, or increase distance from the source.
