"I recently had 3 wisdom teeth and 1 molar extracted by Dr. Joseph. Due to a prior experience at another establishment, I was very nervous. Dr. Joseph spent time understanding what I had gone through and in his calm and reassuring manner, he convinced me that I had no reason to worry. He had a plan that went very well. While there was a stubborn tooth or two, the procedure went fairly quickly and with no pain.." says Keith on Google

The #1 question patients ask about wisdom teeth is: "Do I really need to get them removed?" Wisdom teeth are usually only removed if they cause problems or are likely to cause problems in the future. There are no scientifically proven health benefits of removing wisdom teeth that don't cause problems. However, if you don't have enough room in your mouth for wisdom teeth, or they're painful, infected, or cause other dental problems, they may need to be removed. You may also still need to have them removed, even if they aren't causing any pain. The only way to know for sure is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Joseph at Ascension Oral Surgery: 225-744-2660

What makes oral and maxillofacial surgeons true specialists in the dental field? We must complete a rigorous education and training program that includes dental school, residency, and board certification. Our multi-year hospital-based residencies often take place alongside other surgical specialists. This experience provides exposure to a wide range of cases, from trauma to reconstructive surgery, and fosters interdisciplinary collaboration to deliver optimal patient care. If you need oral surgery, trust the experts. Call to schedule an appointment: 225-744-2660

After a wisdom tooth is removed, a blood clot forms in the empty socket to protect the bone and help healing. If that clot becomes dislodged or dissolves too soon, it leaves the bone exposed. This painful condition is called dry socket.

To avoid dry socket, follow the instructions provided by Dr. Joseph, including:
- Don’t smoke, v**e, or use straws while healing.
- Avoid spitting forcefully or rinsing too hard.
- Stick to soft foods for the first few days.

Dry socket is uncommon, and most people heal without issues. If any problems arise in your recovery, don't hesitate to reach out: 225-744-2660
