Pediatric Therapy Solutions

Pediatric Therapy Solutions At Pediatric Therapy Solutions (PTS), we specialize in helping little people do BIG things. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and how I got started.

Hi, I'm Danielle Saunders Mixon and I'm the owner of an outpatient therapy clinic for children in Prairieville called Pediatric Therapy Solutions. I am an occupational therapist with over twenty years of experience and have worked in outpatient settings as well as in the public school system. Through my work, I've noticed that although our community has many children with developmental challenges, until now, there have been no outpatient therapy services available in Ascension parish. Parents were having to drive to Baton Rouge or further for outpatient therapy, and too many of these children just weren't able to get the early intervention that they needed. In addition to being an occupational therapist, I am also a parent of a child with developmental challenges. Having a child with challenges, and living the daily life and facing the same obstacles that my patients and their families face has changed the way that I practice therapy. I realize now, more than ever, that every child is truly unique and has unique difficulties that must be addressed in a way that works for that child. Through research, consulting with other pediatric professionals, and an extensive amount of training, I have learned about many different techniques and strategies that have proven to be effective with treating children with various challenges. One method in particular, the Masgutova Method (MNRI- Masgutova Neuro Sensory Motor Reflex Integration), has been life changing for my son. The use of these techniques often results in global improvements in children, and it was the key to my son's ability to overcome his physical, mental, and emotional challenges. There were many other factors, but when we started MNRI, his life started to change. He has made astounding progress and is currently a happy, smart child who is doing well in school and has several friends. This would certainly not have been the case without effective early intervention. It was through my personal experience with having a child with challenges, as well as seeing a growing need in our community that lead me to decide to open Pediatric Therapy Solutions. At PTS, we work with children with mild to severe challenges, including everything from poor handwriting, dyslexia, behavior concerns and challenges with attention and focus, to autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, anxiety, PTSD and fine-motor concerns. We treat every child like we would our own, and we offer one-on-one treatment sessions that include educating parents on interventions that they can do at home to maximize their child's potential. I believe wholeheartedly, and I speak from experience, that EFFECTIVE early intervention is the KEY to unlocking each child's full potential in life. If you feel that your child has potential that has not been unlocked, I encourage you to contact us. Your child may have an abundance of potential just waiting to show it's shining face.

Did you know?

Children who enter kindergarten knowing at least 15 lowercase letters and their corresponding sounds are more likely to be successful learning to read.

But wait a minute! I thought I was sending my child to kindergarten to LEARN to read!

Unfortunately, with the increasing expectations at school, many children show up already behind. So, what can we do right now to help?

Create an environment that promotes a love for literacy as soon as possible!
- Allow your child to have access to books and letters in the home (board books, magnets, and puzzles are great for little learners)
-Visit your local library and check out books that bring your child joy!
-Daily story time – Have your child choose a favorite book and spend some time reading or talking about the pictures. Mix it up by having story time outside or standing up to act out the scenes! Can you fly like a bird and roar like a lion?
-Talk about print you see daily (names, favorite restaurant logos, recipes, etc.)
-Sing the alphabet
-Allow your child to see YOU reading and enjoying books! Children first learn by imitating, and you are their very first teacher!
