Pediatric Therapy Solutions

Pediatric Therapy Solutions At Pediatric Therapy Solutions (PTS), we specialize in helping little people do BIG things. Let me tell you a little bit about myself and how I got started.

Hi, I'm Danielle Saunders Mixon and I'm the owner of an outpatient therapy clinic for children in Prairieville called Pediatric Therapy Solutions. I am an occupational therapist with over twenty years of experience and have worked in outpatient settings as well as in the public school system. Through my work, I've noticed that although our community has many children with developmental challenges, until now, there have been no outpatient therapy services available in Ascension parish. Parents were having to drive to Baton Rouge or further for outpatient therapy, and too many of these children just weren't able to get the early intervention that they needed. In addition to being an occupational therapist, I am also a parent of a child with developmental challenges. Having a child with challenges, and living the daily life and facing the same obstacles that my patients and their families face has changed the way that I practice therapy. I realize now, more than ever, that every child is truly unique and has unique difficulties that must be addressed in a way that works for that child. Through research, consulting with other pediatric professionals, and an extensive amount of training, I have learned about many different techniques and strategies that have proven to be effective with treating children with various challenges. One method in particular, the Masgutova Method (MNRI- Masgutova Neuro Sensory Motor Reflex Integration), has been life changing for my son. The use of these techniques often results in global improvements in children, and it was the key to my son's ability to overcome his physical, mental, and emotional challenges. There were many other factors, but when we started MNRI, his life started to change. He has made astounding progress and is currently a happy, smart child who is doing well in school and has several friends. This would certainly not have been the case without effective early intervention. It was through my personal experience with having a child with challenges, as well as seeing a growing need in our community that lead me to decide to open Pediatric Therapy Solutions. At PTS, we work with children with mild to severe challenges, including everything from poor handwriting, dyslexia, behavior concerns and challenges with attention and focus, to autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, cerebral palsy, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, anxiety, PTSD and fine-motor concerns. We treat every child like we would our own, and we offer one-on-one treatment sessions that include educating parents on interventions that they can do at home to maximize their child's potential. I believe wholeheartedly, and I speak from experience, that EFFECTIVE early intervention is the KEY to unlocking each child's full potential in life. If you feel that your child has potential that has not been unlocked, I encourage you to contact us. Your child may have an abundance of potential just waiting to show it's shining face.

The PTS staff had an egg-celent time this week with some team building activities! Our players had to match letters hidden in Easter eggs to the letters in the words of the prizes! The last one to finish the word won the prize! Who came up with this fun game? A Speech Language Pathologist, of course! πŸ˜€ Thanks, Mrs. Lauren!

We want to give a big shoutout to our Occupational Therapy students from LSU Shreveport, who were recently shadowing our OTs: Lily and Kennedy!

They were such a welcome presence at PTS, and we're grateful for their eagerness to learn and fresh perspective on the industry.

PTS is proud to be entrusted as a teaching partner with many universities, and we take it as a testament to our amazing staff!

Story Time πŸ“™ + Sensory Play πŸ‘ = THE BEST πŸ˜ƒ

Our PTS Speech Language Pathologists (SLPs) read "Pete the Cat" while our PAL friends not only did some active listening but also some active play! Each friend was given some white shaving cream, and when Pete the Cat stepped in some strawberries, a little red paint was added to their shaving cream to mimic the story, teaching them cause and effect and that actions have results, which is an important skill for play and communication!

Our active audience members were also asked to predict what happens to his shoes in the story - an activity that supports literacy skills and comprehension!

Thanks, Mrs. Alex, Ms. Meg, and Ms. Kate!

We're always learning at PTS!

During one of our recent team lunch and learns, Mrs. Christina, PTS Speech Language Pathologist, presented on Infant Milestones for Language Development. She emphasized that if a delay is noticed in infancy, early intervention with speech therapy can decrease the time needed for therapy and has the potential to alleviate future language issues.

Wait and see isn't the best approach when it comes to early detection and treatment. A better one may be: "Take note and come see!"
