Central Arizona Fire and Medical Central Arizona Fire & Medical Authority (CAFMA) serves 369 sq. miles of Yavapai County, Arizona. Visit https://www.cazfire.gov for a complete history.

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) formed as the first Fire Authority in the State of Arizona through an Intergovernmental Agreement between the Central Yavapai and Chino Valley Fire Districts. CAFMA's social media accounts will be used to provide relevant and timely updates for community members, including posts about fire safety, emergency incidents, news, events, job openings, and what it's like to work for CAFMA and serve our communities. We encourage questions, comments, and concerns, but please note that in order to manage staff resources, and your tax dollars, we do not monitor social media 24/7. We expect those interacting with our accounts to maintain a reasonable degree of civility. All posts and comments on CAFMA's social media pages are considered public records. BASIC INFO:

A child is ready for a seat belt when they can sit without slouching AND:

- Keep their back against the seat
- Bend knees naturally at the seat edge
- Keep feet flat on the floor

The lap belt should fit snugly across the upper thighs—not the stomach. The shoulder belt should rest snugly on the shoulder and chest—not the neck or face. Never allow the shoulder belt under the arm or behind the back, as it can cause serious injuries in a crash.

Always keep children in the back seat as it’s safer!

And remember to check belt fit in every vehicle; a booster may still be needed in some. More info: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle-safety

Tiny rescue, big reminder: CAFMA firefighters recently rescued a pet tortoise named Littlefoot after a reptile heat lamp fell into bedding and filled a backyard shed with smoke. Crews acted quickly, safely removing Littlefoot, stopping the potential fire, and securing the area.

Our crew later checked on Littlefoot, who was reported to be doing well. We're grateful the incident had a positive outcome!

Using heat lamps outdoors exposes them to weather and temperature changes, creating fire and electrical hazards. Tips for indoor heat lamp use:

• Secure It: Use chains and secure hangers to prevent tipping.
• Distance: Keep lamps at lesat 18–20 inches from flammables.
• Check Often: Inspect cords, bulbs, and connections before use.
• No Extension Cords: Plug directly into a wall outlet.
• Right Bulb: Use the correct wattage for the enclosure.
• Ventilation: Make sure the space is well-ventilated.

Small precautions, big peace of mind for you and your pets 🐢
