Visit at this weekend for a tour day. Kids started out reluctant but capped the day with, “That was interesting.” High praise from that 16 year old. Also, ride for the other twin Friday night prior to jetting down to Tucson. Seeing kids grow up is a trip.

This kid went from back of the pack to top 20 to podium placements over three seasons.

Focus, perseverance and fun got him 2nd place today and 4th in points for the season.

Proud mama moment certainly, but supporting your kids to push themselves and also trust their bodies is a gift they will never lose.

How disappointed am I that I didn’t run the Chicago Marathon today?

At 2:30 am Pacific I was inspecting how it felt to be in a tent in Eastern Arizona rather than waking up in Downtown Chicago to run 26.2.

And not a shred of desire or FOMO was to be found.

Sometimes performance is deciding IF you want to perform at all. I took a look into what I wanted and didn’t just stick to what I said I would do - this isn’t about lack of perseverance as much as a wise decision making about choosing focus.

And my kid’s 4th place metal is metal enough for me this weekend.

The kid helped me launch and it was as close to night swimming as I’ve been in years. This lake is otherworldly. The moon deserved a quiet night.
