Today we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

We reflect on the deep connections between Native American communities and the African-American community, rooted in shared advocacy, resilience, and standing together in the fight for justice.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t stand for just one group of people; he stood for all of us.

His vision reminds us that our struggles are intertwined and that justice anywhere strengthens justice everywhere. As we continue to uplift one another, we move closer to the beloved community he imagined.

From all of here at Thundermaker- Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

This New Year’s, choose life, choose clarity, choose tomorrow.  Our ancestors prayed for us to make it this far. Honor them — and yourself — by staying sober, staying safe, and looking out for one another.

If you’re celebrating, celebrate with intention.

Don’t drink and drive — ever. Get a ride, call a friend, stay where you are, or plan ahead.

If you’re struggling with alcohol or addiction, you’re not alone. Reaching out is strength, not shame.

Talk to someone you trust, connect with a local Native wellness center, or reach out to a crisis line in your area for immediate support.
Our communities need you here. Your family needs you here. You deserve to step into the new year with a clear mind and a safe path forward.

SPECIAL SHOWING OF “You’re No Indian” — a film that confronts identity, exploitation, and the trauma of disenrollment. From casinos to corruption, this story exposes what happens when sovereignty is weaponized and belonging is stripped away.

📍Museum of Indigenous People, Prescott, AZ
🗓️ Monday, Jan 5 |
⏰ 6:30 PM
🎟️ All proceeds support Thundermaker Cultural Recovery

With post-screening Q&A from the director & producer. This isn’t just a screening—it’s a reckoning.

Disenrollment doesn’t just erase names from a roll—it severs ties to land, ceremony, and kinship. It’s a wound carried across generations. This film speaks to that pain—and the power of reclaiming story.

Juniper Funmaker, Diné/ Ho-Chunk artist. Juniper is an emerging Indigenous artist of Diné and Ho-Chunk heritage. Raised in a family deeply grounded in ceremony, cultural teachings, and spiritual tradition, she draws creative energy from the stories and values shared by her parents and extended relatives. For her, art is both reflective and reconnection, a way to explore identity while honoring ancestral roots. Juniper describes her work as “inscrutable,” a personal space where imagination and meaning intertwine.

Today, we’re honored to showcase Junipers powerful art piece, “Thunder Spirit” as part of our healing journey at Thundermaker Wellness Center.

Her work-and that of other Indigenous artists-reflects deep recovery, ceremony, and connection to land and identity. Every design is a story. Every brushstroke is resilience.
Artwork like Juniper’s is now featured on shirts through our website: thundermakerwellness.com/shop

Each purchase directly fuels our evolving recovery programs rooted in Indigenous culture, language, and ceremony.
Wear the story. Share the message. * Help transform lives through culture-centered healing.
