CalvertHealth In the heart of Calvert County, CalvertHealth has been taking care of Southern Maryland families for more than a century.

In everything we do, our goal is to be the trusted healthcare leader, delivering a lifetime of exceptional care. CalvertHealth Medical Center (CHMC) is a private, not-for-profit, community-owned hospital. Founded in 1919, CHMC has been taking care of Southern Maryland families for more than 100 years. Our hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission, licensed by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and certified for Medicare and Medicaid. You can feel confident that you will receive only the highest quality care at CHMC. CHMC is governed by a community board of directors who volunteer their service to the health system. They represent our community and take an active role in the operation of our facility. You can find out more about our board members at http://www.calverthealthmedicine.org/. In addition to our main hospital campus, medical office buildings located in Dunkirk, Solomons, Twin Beaches and Prince Frederick ensure that quality care is no more than 15 minutes from anywhere in Calvert County. We are dedicated to the seamless delivery of high quality medical services for each of our patients. This means supplying everything you may need, from acute, critical care to rehabilitation and home health services, all in the same continuum. It also means providing community health education, wellness programs and reaching out to our neighbors through community partnerships.

It is the doctor who gives their undivided attention.

It is the nurse who checks in at just the right moment.

It is the staff member who remains calm and never wavers, even on the hardest days.

Together, it’s an exceptional patient experience.

It's an experience that helped CalvertHealth earn a 5-Star Overall Hospital Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

No other Southern Maryland hospital earned such a high rating.

He’s here… and he is ready to make a splash 🦆💛

The Calvert County Parks and Recreation Moby Duck has officially landed at CalvertHealth — and he’ll be visiting with us through February 23 before heading off to his next stop!

Moby Duck is making waves in support of the annual Therapeutic Recreation Duck Race at the Edward T. Hall Aquatic Center on Saturday, February 28, 2026. This fun-filled event raises funds for the Therapeutic Recreation scholarship program, helping individuals with special needs participate in life-enriching recreation programs and summer camps.

Before he floats off to the finish line, we’d love for you to snap a photo with Moby Duck and share it on social media or follow the instructions posted on the duck to get your own duck in the race!

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. DAISY Award Honorees personify CalvertHealth Medical Center’s remarkable patient experience. These nurses consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care, and they are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.

Congratulations, Peggy Elter, on being named a DAISY Honoree! To protect patient privacy, we have summarized the submission below:

Peggy Elter has been named a DAISY Honoree in recognition of her exceptional commitment to high-quality, compassionate care. She identified a patient at significant risk during a pre-admission assessment and immediately took action, coordinating with multiple providers and escalating concerns to ensure timely intervention. Peggy personally followed up to secure urgent support and refused to end her shift without a clear plan in place. Her advocacy, clinical judgment and dedication exemplify the highest standards of nursing practice and reflect our organization’s core values.

What you eat has a powerful impact on your heart.

is a good time to focus on foods that support heart health and long-term wellness. Lifestyle factors play a large role, such as diet, exercise, stress levels and sleep!

Some of the most heart-healthy food choices include:
• Leafy greens like spinach and kale
• Fatty fish such as salmon and tuna
• Whole grains including oats, brown rice and quinoa
• Nuts and seeds, especially walnuts and flaxseed
• Fresh fruits like berries, oranges and apples
• Healthy fats such as olive oil and avocado

It is also encouraged to exercise at least 150 minutes per week, reduce stress and sleep 6-8 hours.

Your heart works hard for you.
Fuel it well.

Your heart works for you every day. American Heart Month is a reminder to return the favor.

Heart disease remains one of the leading health concerns in our communities, despite all the technological advancements, though many risk factors can be managed through regular checkups, healthy habits and early detection. Small steps taken consistently can make a meaningful difference over time.

From preventative screenings and diagnostic testing to advanced cardiac care, our focus is always on personalized, compassionate treatment close to home.

This February, take a moment to prioritize your heart:
• Schedule a routine wellness visit
• Know your blood pressure, cholesterol and family history
• Stay active in ways that fit your lifestyle
• Ask questions and partner with a care team you trust

Your heart matters. Your health matters. And our community is stronger when we take care of both together. Heart health is not a spectator sport!

From preventive screenings and chronic condition management to guidance when life changes, primary care is your foundation for lifelong health.

If prioritizing your health is on your list this year, it all starts with making an appointment. Why not today?
