April is OT Month, and we are so lucky to have Melissa as part of our team!

Melissa brings so much energy, creativity, and humor into every session. She is incredibly goal-oriented and always keeps families at the center of what she does. Her sessions are full of fun, innovative activities that keep kids engaged while building meaningful skills.

Melissa is also deeply committed to growing as a clinician. She is always continuing her education and learning new strategies to make sure the children she works with are receiving the best, most up-to-date care.

Outside of the clinic and schools, Melissa loves spending time at the lake during the summer and making memories with her husband and two kids.

We are so thankful for the dedication, passion, and positivity she brings to our team and to the families we serve.

Thank you, Melissa, for everything you do! đź’›

Autism Awareness Day đź’™

Today is about more than awareness — it’s about understanding, acceptance, and inclusion.

At our clinic, we celebrate autistic children for who they are. We honor their unique ways of communicating, connecting, and experiencing the world.

Autistic communication may look different — and that’s okay.
Whether a child is using words, gestures, AAC, scripting, or showing us their interests in their own way… they are communicating.

Our goal isn’t to change who a child is.
It’s to support them in being understood, respected, and empowered.

Here’s how we can all support autistic individuals:
• Listen to and respect all forms of communication
• Follow their lead and interests
• Create environments where they feel safe and included
• Assume competence
• Celebrate differences instead of trying to “fix” them

Every child deserves to be heard. Every voice matters.

đź’™ Today and every day, we choose acceptance.

Donate your shoes now!! We’re almost to the goal!!!

WOW!

👟 We’ve collected 80 bags of shoes so far! 🧡
Our goal is to reach 100 bags by April 9

100 bags = about $1,000 for the playground project!

Have gently used shoes to donate? You can drop them off at any Princeton school, Princeton Coborn's, Momentum Fitness Centre, or the Princeton Area Library. Just look for the orange collection boxes.

Can’t make it to a drop-off? Send us a message, and we’ll pick them up!

Thank you so much for your support—we’re so close! 🙌

Wondering what speech and language development looks like for a 1-year-old?

Around the first birthday, many babies are starting to say a few words, use gestures like pointing or waving, and respond to familiar words. By 18 months, many toddlers begin using 10-20+ words and trying to imitate new words they hear.

Swipe through to see typical milestones and signs it may be time to talk with a speech-language pathologist.

Thinking about speech or OT services but not sure when to start? Summer is one of the best times.

With fewer school demands, kids often make faster progress and families have more flexibility to build routines that actually stick.

We have a limited number of summer spots open for speech and occupational therapy. We support a range of needs including communication, AAC, regulation, and motor skills.

We accept most major insurances and are happy to help you figure out next steps.

Send a message or reach out to get scheduled.

We’re Rocking Our Socks today to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day! 🧦💙💛

You might notice some extra bright, mismatched, or silly socks around today—and that’s exactly the point! Socks are shaped a bit like chromosomes, and wearing fun, unique pairs is a simple way to celebrate differences and show support for individuals with Down syndrome.

At the clinic, we love celebrating what makes every child unique. Today is all about inclusion, kindness, and recognizing that different is not less—it’s just different. And that’s something worth celebrating.

We’re joining our local schools in celebrating today, and we’d love for you to join in too—throw on your craziest socks and help us spread awareness!

💛💙

Wondering what speech and language should look like for a 2-year-old?

Around age 2, many toddlers are starting to use two-word phrases, name familiar things, and follow simple directions. You might not understand everything yet — but you should understand about 50% of what your child says.

Swipe through to see typical milestones and signs it may be helpful to talk with a speech-language pathologist.

Wondering what speech and language should look like for a 3-year-old?

By age 3, many children are using short sentences, asking questions, and following simple directions. You should be able to understand about 75% of what your child says, even if some speech errors are still developing.

Swipe through to see common speech milestones, typical sound development, and signs it may be time to talk with a speech-language pathologist.

Kids notice differences — and that’s a good thing.

When we talk openly with our children about disabilities, we help replace uncertainty with understanding, empathy, and kindness. These conversations help kids see differences as normal and create space for real friendships built on respect and inclusion.

Books can be a wonderful place to start these conversations. Some favorites include:

• We’re All Wonders – R.J. Palacio
• Just Ask! – Sonia Sotomayor
• The Girl Who Thought in Pictures – Julia Finley Mosca
• All Are Welcome – Alexandra Penfold
• Different: A Great Thing to Be! – Heather Avis

Reading together and talking openly helps children grow into compassionate, inclusive people.

**Tell me you don't know how to create social media posts without telling me you know how to create social media posts**

I am going to try this again ...

Wondering what your 4-year-old should be doing with speech and language?

By this age, most kids are speaking in sentences and should be understood about **90% of the time**. Some speech errors are still normal, but there are also signs that may mean a child needs extra support.

Swipe through to see typical milestones, speech sound expectations, and when it might be helpful to talk with a speech-language pathologist.

💬 Connection Corner: Presume Competence 🤍

Presuming competence means we start from a place of belief: that every child is capable of understanding, learning, and communicating—even when they don’t yet have the tools to show us.

It means we talk to children, not about them.
We offer rich language, meaningful opportunities, and multiple ways to communicate.
We don’t lower expectations based on diagnosis, appearance, or current skill level—instead, we raise supports.

When we presume competence, we:
• Assume understanding before assuming limitation
• Model respect through our words, tone, and actions
• Provide access to AAC, visuals, and supports without making children “prove” they need them
• Give time, patience, and the benefit of the doubt

Presuming competence doesn’t ignore challenges. It honors potential. When we believe in our kids first, we create space for confidence, connection, and growth—sometimes before they believe it themselves!

Every child deserves to be seen as capable. Our mindset matters. 🤍
