ADHD, Neurotransmitters, and Therapy
Through the years, research has explored the relationship between neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin) and ADHD. Each neurotransmitter plays a different role:
* Dopamine is related to our brains reward and motivation system.
* Serotonin is related to our ability to manage impulsivity, hyperactivity, and mood.
* Norepinephrine supports you in maintaining attention and focus on tasks.
How does therapy fit into the treatment process with this information in mind? Therapy specifically helps individuals with ADHD by teaching practical strategies to manage the challenges they face. We consider approaches to support neurotransmitter activity and provide you with resources to implement them. Behavior therapy, play-based strategies, and skill building all play a role in helping individuals learn how to improve attention, regulate emotions, and utilize coping tools.
We are well versed in the difficulties of living with ADHD and are here to be a part of your treatment when you are ready.
