The holidays can bring a mix of emotions, excitement from being together, but also stress, sadness, or loneliness. This busy season can impact sleep, routines, and even blood sugar levels, especially for those managing diabetes. As you move through the holidays, remember to prioritize your health.

With packed schedules and added stress, it’s easy to forget medications or daily routines ⏰. Set reminders or alarms to help you stay on track. Aim for proper sleep 😴, eat regular meals 🍽️, and try not to skip meals to “save up” for a big celebration. Consider lighter, balanced meals earlier in the day and bring a dish to gatherings that works for you.

When it’s time to eat, plan your plate 🥗. Fill half with vegetables, a quarter with protein 🍗, and a quarter with carbohydrates like potatoes, bread, pasta, or sweets 🍞🍰. Choose water or unsweetened drinks 🚰, enjoy treats in moderation, and step away from the food once you’re done. After your meal, get moving, even a 10-minute walk 🚶‍♀️ can help stabilize blood sugar.

✨ These tips are provided by Stephanie Hamilton, MBA, PA-C, with WVU Medicine Princeton Endocrinology, to support healthy habits throughout the holiday season.

Thank you to Beckley Miracle Makers and Anna Lilly, along with their team, for organizing a generous donation to WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital in support of children who visit our Emergency Department and Pediatric Unit. Beckley Miracle Makers is proudly associated with Children’s Miracle Network, helping to make a meaningful difference for pediatric patients in our community.

This donation was made possible through a four-week campaign that engaged Sam’s Club team members and the community, providing an opportunity for everyone to get involved and give back. We are grateful for their compassion and support in helping us bring comfort and care to the children and families we serve.

Dr. Harron with our general surgery team recently sponsored a night at Amy’s House of Hope. With the help of our PACU staff, who assisted in organizing the effort, and Sharon Fry from the Laboratory, who generously catered the meal, the team came together in service to our community. It was a meaningful opportunity to provide a warm meal while sharing in fellowship and prayer.

🎄👶✨ Our hospital was filled with joy, laughter, and holiday magic during our Baby’s First Christmas event. Families returned with their little ones to celebrate a very special milestone with many babies experiencing their first visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus, accompanied by their very own elf.

It was a heartwarming opportunity for families to reconnect with the Women's Center staff who helped welcome their babies into the world. While visiting, families enjoyed refreshments, entered festive gift basket raffles, and shared in the spirit of the season together. 💙🎅🎁

We are proud to recognize Helen Hubbard for being honored with the DAISY Award, celebrating the extraordinary compassion, communication, commitment, and competence she brings to every patient she serves.

During a patient’s intake to the Behavioral Health Center, Helen provided exceptional care that made a lasting impact. From the moment of arrival late in the evening, she approached every step of the process with patience, dignity, and unwavering commitment. Whether gathering difficult information, ensuring comfort, or even taking the time to wash a patient’s clothes, Helen went above and beyond to make a frightening experience feel safe and manageable.

What stood out most was her consistency. Even the following morning, Helen was still there, offering the same compassion, reassurance, and steady presence. In moments of crisis, that level of care builds trust, strength, and a sense of safety, and Helen delivered all of that and more.

Thank you, Helen, for your caring heart and for the difference you make when it matters most. Your dedication truly embodies the spirit of the DAISY Award. 🌼

Our Story

In 1970, Princeton Community Hospital opened as a 156-bed acute care general hospital with 13 physicians and 125 employees. Since then, we’ve grown into a southern West Virginia leader in medical care, with 267 beds, 160 doctors and 1,097 employees. We recognize that as our community continues to grow, so does our responsibility to keep its citizens healthy. With that goal in mind, we’ve made continual advancements that benefit our patients every day. We’re a regional leader in joint replacement, for example, and have invested well over $1 million in minimally invasive surgery and joint replacement technology. We’ve tripled the capacity of our Day Surgery Department. We’ve also added our Women's Center, which offers family-friendly birthing suites, secure nurseries and a private setting for women's diagnostic services. For those reasons and so many more, Princeton Community Hospital is the center of health care in our community – reliable, dependable, always accessible and ready when you need us.
