Matthew Ernat, Grand Knight of the Father Edward Farrell Knights of Columbus Council 5591 in Princeton (L), and Tootsie Roll Drive Chairperson, Deacon John Murphy (R), presented a check for $3,002.58 to Mandi Johnson, CFO, on Thursday. Each year, the Knights hold a Tootsie Roll drive to raise money for organizations that support people with intellectual disabilities. We are honored that they select us for this donation, and we applaud their commitment and generosity

We began talking about offering 24 hour residential services in Putnam County 7 long years ago after being approached by a family who had a home in rural Granville and a daughter on the State of Illinois PUNS waiting list! Since the other 5 homes we support are in Princeton, it sounded like an amazing idea! Remodeling took place, followed by COVID, and then a handful of years with no luck in recruiting staff for 2nd and 3rd shifts, despite our best efforts. Fast forward to today, and the home is now a reality! Welcome home, ladies π₯³ We're looking forward to this next chapter!

Every year, we are reminded of the kindness and generosity of so many amazing people in our communities. THANK YOU to those who are remembering us with year-end donations and well wishes. The "Christmas Wish" program has been in existence for more than 20 years and has traditionally been a way to help those with no family contact or limited financial means still celebrate the holiday with a gift or two. Area churches have come together to be sure that everyone has an extra reason to smile on Christmas morning. The program itself is quite an undertaking, and we are so appreciative of the time and effort that Emily, our Quality Assurance Coordinator, puts into it. There are phone calls and letters and follow-up with contacts at the churches that participate, and then there is pulling all the anonymous gifts together and matching them with the recipients and ensuring they are all delivered on time. It was another successful year thanks to parishioners at First United Methodist Church of Princeton IL, St. Louis Parish - Princeton, IL, Christ Community Church, Princeton IL, New Hope Church of the Nazarene, First Lutheran Church, Open Prairie United Church of Christ, and some friends of Gateway ππ π

Our humble beginnings started in 1970 in an abandoned schoolhouse in Malden, Illinois. Staffed with a crew of 3, 1 program, and $35,000, Gateway Services was born. Currently Gateway has 7 programs, approximately 115 staff, 3 office buildings, a mechanic's garage, and 6 residential homes.
In 1978, our first home was rented to provide 24 hour residential supports. Today, we have 6 CILA homes, 1 of which is owned by Gateway Services, and 5 are rental agreements between a landlord and the individuals who live there.
Prior to 1989, transportation was Gateway-specific. Today, BPART consists of Gateway as the lead administrator and 3 partner agencies (St. Margaretβs Hospital, Bureau County Senior Citizens Association, and Putnam County Achievement Services). In FY20, the BPART system logged over 600,000 miles, providing nearly 65,000 rides!
In 2007, our day program expanded from the Princeton location to include an office in Henry to better serve individuals from eastern Bureau, Marshall, and Putnam Counties.
2017 saw the beginning of Open Doors Community Counseling, a community mental health program. Located in Perry Plaza (and in Henry as of 2019), we are currently seeing adults and children aged 5 and older with Medicaid only.
We have seen many changes since the 1970s; however, we share a common goal of ensuring a high quality of life for everyone.
