You heard the big man! 🎅

The holiday season is SUGAR season—it comes in the form of sweets, snacks, juices, fizzy drinks, and alcohol. The sugar in these foods and drinks feeds the bacteria in your mouth, creating acids that weaken your enamel and cause decay/cavities.

The temps are dropping 🥶 have you noticed your teeth are sensitive in the cold air?

This can often be caused by worn enamel exposing the dentin, which contains tiny tubes leading to the tooth’s nerve. Your enamel can wear away due to aggressive brushing, acidic foods, and teeth grinding. Gum recession, decay, cavities, and damaged teeth can also cause sensitivity.

Things you can do to prevent sensitivity:

👉Switch toothpaste to one specifically for sensitive teeth
👉Brush gently
👉Limit or avoid acidic foods and drinks
👉Wear a mouth guard to protect your enamel from wear and tear

Make an appointment to see your dentist ASAP if pain is sharp and lasts for more than 3-4 days, if the sensitivity affects both hot and cold temps, or if you have a new cavity/cracked tooth. Prevention is key! 🦷

Are you a frequent migraine sufferer?

Here are some signs your migraines may be linked to sleep apnea:

-Frequent morning headaches caused by lack of oxygen overnight
-Loud snoring and gasping signal breathing pauses that define sleep apnea
-Daytime fatigue can indicate poor sleep quality
-Insomnia and disrupted sleep are common signs of sleep apnea

If you experience any of these, it may be time to see a healthcare provider and get the relief you deserve ❤️

We know, we know…flossing isn’t your number one priority, BUT it’s an important part of maintaining good oral health!

Flossing twice a day (same for brushing!) reduces your risk of gum disease, prevents cavities, improves breath, and freshens your teeth. If you’re not a fan of floss, water flossers/waterpiks are a great alternative! Just remember to be gentle! If you need to brush up on your flossing technique, your hygienist is a pro and can demonstrate for you!

Brushing your teeth right before the dentist doesn’t make up for not brushing every day!

Daily brushing (2 minutes, twice a day) and flossing keeps your teeth and gums healthy long-term, preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and even heart disease. Although visiting your dentist may seem routine, the impact brushing and flossing can have on your health is profound!

BUT brushing before your appointment does have a perk…it gives your dentist a clear view of your smile and helps your cleaning go even smoother! 🪥🦷✨

It’s October again, which means it’s National Dental Hygiene Month! Your dental health (and hygiene!) directly relates to your oral health, and our dental hygienists are often the first line of defense when battling tooth decay, gum disease, and oral health problems. Your hygienist is a licensed professional who works to prevent, detect, and treat oral disease by offering education and specific recommendations on proper dental hygiene techniques to maintain and enhance your smile, while also encouraging you to develop a personalized at-home oral hygiene routine.

By routinely combating dental disease through regular visits with your hygienist, you can prevent significant tooth decay, gum disease, tooth loss, and other diseases connected to poor oral health.

Stay tuned for our hygienist reveal!! 🦷🪥✨

Dental myth: brushing harder means cleaner teeth 🪥

FALSE-It’s important to brush your teeth thoroughly, however, brushing too hard can wear down the enamel and cause discoloration and sensitivity. In addition, brushing too hard may also damage your gums and even cause them to bleed and recede. Toothpaste is abrasive enough! Choose a soft-bristled toothbrush or better yet, use an electric toothbrush and avoid applying too much pressure when brushing!
