👻It’s Halloween week which means it is time to get those SPOOKY costumes ready for the fun festivities to come. While it is enjoyable to get all decked out for the occasion, it is important to protect your family from SCARY eye injuries. 👁️

🎃Complete Your Costume with Safety In Mind! Whether you are going as a brave superhero 🦸 , an adorable kitty 🐈‍⬛ , or a frightening monster 👹 , masks are an exciting addition to any costume! Do a test run with your mask before the big day to check for a proper fit and make sure your vision is not obstructed. Masks, eye patches, hats, or wigs that block vision could lead to fall related injuries. In addition, be sure there are no loose pieces on the mask that could fall and hit you in your eyes.

💀Make Healthy Make-Up Choices! Does your clever costume involve face paint? Look for hypo-allergenic products only. Always be cautious with make-up that is applied near the eye area. Avoid glitter, loose metallic particles, and flaky make-up on the eyelids or surrounding area. Spot test for allergies before applying any new products. Remember sharing is not caring when it comes to mascara, eye make-up, or make-up brushes. And please don’t forget to remove all eye make-up before bed!

🧟‍♀️Do’s and Dont’s of Decorative Contact lenses: Decorative contact lenses can take your costume to the next level – just be sure you have a valid prescription for FDA approved lenses from your eye doctor. Contact lenses are medical devices and must be evaluated for a proper fit. Contact lenses that are found over the counter are not safe and can cause many nightmares including eye infections and vision-threatening ulcers. Never sleep in your contacts unless they are approved specifically for that purpose.
