I find that as i am decorating for Christmas (which I do early), I am pulling out boxes and getting into areas of my home that have been months forgotten. It is a good time for me to "downsize" a little at a time. Some things I have been doing...
1. As I run across or "touch" something I no longer want or need, I put it in a pile (corner of the basement).
2. Switching over my closet from summer to winter gives me the opportunity to sell, donate, or discard clothes that I no longer wear. What's the rule? 1 year without wearing? Of course I don't go along with that! That's crazy! HA! I'm more on the 3 year cycle. But then, I need to make room.
3. As I begin the baking season, I open cabinets and piles of pots and pans fall out. At the very least, I organize. But in doing so, inevitably something comes out of that cabinet and goes into the "pile".
4. I gotta make room in the garage for the cars that have lived happily in the sun all summer for lack of space. Snow and ice is coming. So, I spend a part of several days sorting, discarding and "piling".
5. Of course there are other places! But that gets overwhelming. I take a little bite of the elephant at a time, and somehow that elephant doesn't grow.
6. When I can't take the pile anymore, I garage sale for some pocket money, then donate!
Happy Fall, and Happy "downsizing". Don't hesitate to get in touch if you need me for a large project, or just a closet! Id love to help...
