Most birth prep tells you how to prepare physically. But they leave out the most important part: What happens when your mind hits “The Wall”?
In the middle of transition, your brain is programmed to protect you. It senses the intensity and screams, “I can’t do this anymore.” If you haven’t trained for that moment, that’s when fear takes over, your body clenches shut, and the Fear-Tension-Pain cycle begins.
As a mom of four and a doula, I’ve learned that unmedicated birth doesn’t mean you’ll transform into some “zen goddess” for 12 hours straight. But you can master the Power of the Return.
