The FDA has announced a major, evidence-based update to menopause care: black box warnings are being removed from most hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products. This is a significant milestone in aligning patient care with modern science. 🔬✨

Why this matters: the original warnings were based on early-2000s data using older hormone formulations and a study population well past the typical age of menopause. Updated research shows that these risks do not reflect the safety profile of today’s HRT options.

Here’s what clinicians and patients should know:
• Outdated warnings removed: cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, and probable dementia.
• What remains: a black box warning for endometrial cancer on estrogen-only therapies.
• Refined clinical guidance: initiate HRT within 10 years of menopause onset or before age 60.
• Strong professional support: leading organizations, including ACOG, endorse this update based on current evidence.

Most importantly, the FDA emphasizes that HRT decisions should remain individualized, made in collaboration with a trusted provider.
