🎉 Play of the Week Wednesday 🧠✏️
Build Visual Skills While You Play!

🟨🔵🔺Did you know that Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is more than just a fast-paced game — it’s an amazing way to strengthen essential visual processing skills?

Whether at home, in the classroom, or in therapy, this high-energy matching game delivers BIG brain benefits!

Here’s what it’s helping develop:

🔷 Form Constancy – Recognize the same characters (taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza) even as they appear in different card designs, orientations, or styles.

🟠 Visual Memory – Remember the repeating spoken sequence and match it against each flipped card — all while staying ready to react at the right moment.

🔺 Sequential Memory – Keep the spoken pattern Taco → Cat → Goat → Cheese → Pizza flowing in order, even when the pictures on the cards try to throw you off!

🟣 Figure–Ground Perception – Focus on the single flipped card while ignoring hands, motion, table clutter, and the fast-paced excitement around you.

🟩 Spatial Awareness – Judge where your hand needs to land to safely (and quickly!) slap the pile without bumping into others or losing your turn.

🟨 Closure – Make quick decisions based on partial visual information when a card is flipped quickly — identifying the character before you see the full image.

✨ Need to simplify the game?

Try slowing down the pace, removing special “bonus characters,” or pausing the spoken sequence until players gain confidence. You can also practice flipping cards more slowly to build accuracy before adding speed.

💡 Fast reactions meet cognitive development in this lively matching game.
Perfect for kids, families, educators, and therapists looking for screen-free fun that builds quick thinking, accuracy, and visual skills — all with a LOT of laughs.

🎯 Play fast. Build skills. Think in patterns.

🎣 LET’S GO FISHING! 🎣

Looking for a fun, fast-moving game that keeps kids laughing and builds essential visual processing skills? “Let’s Go Fishing” is one of our go-to favorites for boosting attention, accuracy, and confidence — all through play! 🐟✨

🌟 How to Play (Classic Version):

1️⃣ Place all the fish in the rotating pond.
2️⃣ Turn the pond on — the fish will begin opening and closing their mouths as they spin.
3️⃣ Each player gets a fishing pole and tries to “catch” the fish at just the right moment.
4️⃣ Play until all fish are caught or until a player reaches a set number.

Simple, exciting, and full of great visual challenges! 👀💛

🎲 Additional Ways to Play

🌈 Color Hunt:
“Catch ONLY the blue fish” or “Catch red → yellow → green” to build sorting and sequencing.

🧠 Memory Match:
Show your child 2–3 fish colors in a row, turn the pond on, and have them catch them from memory.

⏱ Beat the Clock:
Set a timer for 30–45 seconds and see how many fish they can catch accurately.

🎣 Simon Says Fishing:
Give fast-changing instructions like “Catch yellow! Now green! Now only fish on the left side!”

👀 Target Practice:
Choose one single fish and challenge them to catch only that one as it rotates around the pond.

🟪 Sorting Challenge:
After catching, have kids sort fish by color, size, or number order — great for integrating visual + motor skills.

🤫 Silent Fishing Round:
No talking allowed! Requires focus, self-regulation, and sustained attention.

🧠 Why It’s GREAT for Visual Processing:

👀 Visual Discrimination – Spotting the correct fish by color and position as everything spins.
🧠 Visual Memory – Keeping the target fish in mind without needing to re-check.
🔢 Sequential Memory – Catching fish in a specific order or pattern (ex: blue → red → yellow).
🧩 Form Constancy – Recognizing each fish even as it rotates, tilts, or opens and closes its mouth.
🎯 Figure–Ground – Finding one fish among many moving fish and distractions.
🔒 Closure – Making sense of quick, incomplete visual information as the pond rotates.

🎉 Why We Love It

Kids don’t realize they’re working — but every moment of “fishing” strengthens the visual foundation needed for reading, writing, attention, and hand-eye coordination. It’s an easy win for home support.

Save this post for your next play-based activity! 🐟💛

🎁👁 December is Gift of Sight Month! 👁🎁

This month is all about celebrating the precious gift of vision and raising awareness about the importance of eye health and routine eye exams. Whether it’s protecting against conditions like glaucoma or spotting early signs of diabetes, your eyes can tell you a lot about your overall health.👓

Why it matters:
🔹 Eye Exams Save Sight – Early detection = early treatment.
🔹 Prevent Blindness – Use protective eyewear and wear your UV-blocking shades.
🔹 Healthy Habits – Eat for your eyes, take screen breaks, and stay hydrated!
🔹 Spread Awareness – Share what you learn and encourage loved ones to get their eyes checked.

✨ Give the gift of sight, to yourself and others, by booking your next eye exam and supporting access to quality eye care for all.

You’ve probably heard it before “Don’t read in dim light, you’ll ruin your eyes!” 👀

But here’s the truth: reading in low light won’t cause permanent eye damage. What it can do, however, is make your eyes work harder, leading to temporary eye strain.

Here's what really happens:
🔹 Your eyes dilate to take in more light.
🔹 This makes it a little harder to focus.
🔹 Over time, this can cause fatigue, dryness, or mild headaches.

Tips to reduce eye strain while reading:
🔸Use good ambient lighting (a soft lamp behind you is best).
🔸Take the 20-20-20 rule breaks — every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
🔸Keep reading materials at a comfortable distance.
🔸Stay hydrated and blink often!

At Prosper Family Eyecare, we love debunking eye myths and helping you care for your vision the right way! Schedule your comprehensive eye exam today to keep your eyes healthy and strain-free.

Build Visual Processing & Sensory Awareness While You Play!

🟣🔴⚪️ Long road trips are the perfect chance to sharpen observation skills! “Find the Rainbow” turns everyday sights, sounds, and sensations into a fun, brain-boosting adventure that builds visual scanning, discrimination, and sensory integration — all while keeping kids engaged on the go.

📅 Week 4: Five Senses – Find the Rainbow!
Players look outside the car windows and use their five senses to explore the world around them — one color and sense at a time!

🌈 How to Play:
Go through the colors of the rainbow (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) and find something that matches each color outside the car window. Once the rainbow is complete, play again — this time using your five senses!
👀 Sight: Spot something colorful, shiny, or moving.
👂 Sound: Listen for horns, music, birds, or wind.
👃 Smell: What can you smell — fresh air, rain, or snacks?
✋ Touch: Feel your seat, clothes, or travel blanket — describe the texture.
👄 Taste: Take a sip or bite of a snack and describe the flavor.

✨ Find the Rainbow Variations:
1️⃣ Alphabet Rainbow – Find something outside that starts with each letter of the alphabet in color order.
2️⃣ Nature Rainbow – Only count natural things like trees, flowers, or clouds for your color hunt.
3️⃣ Moving Rainbow – Try to spot moving objects in rainbow order (red car, orange sign, yellow truck...).
4️⃣ Sensory Challenge – Combine all five senses at once! Describe what you see, hear, smell, feel, or taste in one moment.
5️⃣ Memory Rainbow – After the round, recall everything you saw in order — test your visual memory!

🎲 This Game Builds:
🧠 Visual Scanning – Searching scenery for specific colors and details.
🔎 Visual Discrimination – Distinguishing shades and similar objects in the environment.
🧩 Visual Memory – Remembering each color and object in order.
👀 Figure-Ground Perception – Spotting objects in busy or moving scenes.
✨ Sensory Integration – Connecting what you see, hear, feel, and smell into one rich experience.

Build Memory & Visual Processing Skills While You Play!

🟣🔴⚪️ Long drives and holiday travel are the perfect time for this classic brain-boosting word game! “I’m Going on a Picnic” is more than a silly alphabet game — it’s a fun way to strengthen visual memory, sequencing, and attention while keeping everyone laughing.

📅 Week 3: The Picnic Game!
Each player takes turns adding to a growing list of picnic items — but there’s a twist! You must remember every item said before yours and add a new one that starts with the next letter of the alphabet.

🧺 Example:
Player 1: “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing apples.”
Player 2: “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing apples and bananas.”
Player 3: “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing apples, bananas, and carrots.”Keep going through the alphabet until someone forgets an item — then start a new round!

✨ Picnic Game Variations:
1️⃣ Category Picnic – Pick a category (like animals, toys, or travel items) instead of foods.
2️⃣ Color Picnic – Each item must be a specific color (“I’m bringing something red...”).
3️⃣ Memory Chain Picnic – Try it without writing anything down — who can remember the longest list?
4️⃣ Picture Picnic – Draw or visualize each item in your mind to strengthen visual memory.
5️⃣ Rhyming Picnic – Each new word must rhyme with the previous one (“I’m bringing a pear, a chair, and a bear!”).

🎲 This Game Builds:
🧠 Visual Memory – Recall and mentally picture previously named items.
🔄 Sequential Memory – Remember the order of each item as the list grows.
👀 Visual Scanning – Picture each object in your mind as you repeat the list.
✨ Creativity & Language Skills – Think flexibly and connect words quickly under pressure.
