Every four weeks, we move through the same cycle: standing poses, forward bends, backbends, restoratives and pranayama. It's a structure that builds steadily over time.
This week, we set it aside.

Teacher's Choice week is exactly what it sounds like — your teachers bring what they're working on, what they're curious about, what they want to explore with you in the room. No two classes will look exactly the same.
Come see what's on their minds this week.

If you've been considering a more immersive experience, Cindy and Kathleen are leading a retreat in Enfield this September — a quiet, focused setting to continue this work. Details at iyengaryogasource.com/enfield-2026.

Restorative practice invites us to slow down in a very deliberate way.

With the support of props, the body is placed so that effort can release without losing structure. In that support, the breath settles and the mind begins to quiet.

This week, we’ll explore how careful setup and attention to detail allow rest to become both active and aware.

This week, we are focusing on restorative yoga in class.

These poses use props to support the body so it can release effort while maintaining awareness. With careful setup and attention to alignment, restorative practice helps calm the nervous system and bring steadiness to the mind.

Whether you are feeling fatigued, managing stress, or simply looking to slow down, restorative yoga offers a thoughtful and supportive approach.

In restorative yoga, small adjustments matter.

The placement of a blanket, the height of a bolster, the support under the head - these details shape the entire experience of the pose.

When the body is properly supported, effort begins to release without losing awareness. The spine can lengthen, the breath can settle, and the nervous system can begin to quiet.

In Iyengar Yoga, we use props with precision so each posture becomes both restful and attentive.

This week, we’ll explore how small adjustments create stability and ease in restorative poses.

Backbends take the body somewhere it rarely goes.
Not forcing. Not performing. Not about how far you can bend.

Just the spine learning to lengthen, the chest learning to open, and the back body learning to be strong.

When we approach backbends this way — with patience, precision, and good support — something shifts. The body feels more alive. The breath deepens. The whole system wakes up.

That's what we're exploring together in class this week at Iyengar Yoga Source.

Yes, that’s a rope wall.

The rope wall is a traditional tool in the Iyengar method, designed to support precision in action. It helps students experience alignment more clearly while building strength, balance, and stability in a safe and supported way.

In our Beginner Iyengar Yoga Series, you’ll learn how to use props — including the rope wall — intelligently and progressively, so postures become accessible and deeply effective.

Classes are limited to five students, allowing for detailed instruction and meaningful feedback.

Why do we begin our 5-week cycle with Standing Poses? Because a steady practice requires a steady foundation.

This week at Iyengar Yoga Source, we’re exploring the strength, balance, and precision found in poses such as Tadasana (Mountain Pose). In the Iyengar Yoga method, standing poses establish alignment from the ground up — training the legs to support the spine, and the spine to support clear, steady breathing.

These poses are not just about building leg strength. They refine posture, sharpen awareness, and help us move through daily life with greater stability and ease.

If you’ve ever thought:

“I’m not flexible enough.”
“I’ve been sedentary for years.”
“I don’t know where to start.”

You’re not alone and this is exactly where practice begins.

Our Beginner Iyengar Yoga Series in Providence is designed for complete beginners and those returning to movement. We move progressively and methodically, building stability where there is weakness and releasing tension where there is restriction.

Through careful attention to alignment and the intelligent use of props, you’ll learn how to practice in a way that supports your body - safely and effectively.

Enrollment is limited to just 5 students, allowing for detailed instruction and meaningful feedback.

The series begins March 11.

New to yoga? This is a thoughtful place to begin.

Our 4-Week Beginner Iyengar Yoga Series begins March 11 at Iyengar Yoga Source in Providence. This structured, small-group series (limited to just 5 students) offers a clear and supportive introduction to the method.

You’ll learn how to practice the postures in your body - with attention to alignment, stability, and safe action - rather than forcing yourself into shapes. Through precise instruction and intelligent use of props, we build genuine strength, mobility, balance, and improved posture.

The approach is steady and methodical. The results are lasting.

We teach backbends once a month — and they’re worth the wait.

If backbending week feels challenging (or not quite your favorite 😉), try working with these poses on your own between classes. A little steady consistency can make a big difference.

As your strength builds and your sensitivity in the posture improves, the whole category begins to feel more accessible — even invigorating.
You may even find yourself genuinely looking forward to backbending week.

This week in class, our focus is on backbends.

In Iyengar Yoga, backbending is approached through preparation, alignment, and stability. Rather than forcing flexibility, we establish clarity in the body so extension can happen with awareness.

Classes this week will explore backbends progressively, using props and precise instruction to support the spine and nervous system. Backbends practiced in this way can feel both energizing and grounding.

Join us in studio or online as we study backbends together this week!
