Employee Spotlight: Alicia Johnson, Accounts Payable

In slightly less than two years at Phoenix House New England, Alicia has performed a variety of jobs in different settings. Beginning as a Recovery Support Specialist at our Exeter Campus, she was later promoted to the role of Administrative Assistant there. In January of 2021 she joined the regional Administrative team, with responsibility for Accounts Payable.

Alicia is passionate about helping people in recovery, and is always ready to help a patient or a coworker with anything they need. Her delight in being useful in as many ways as possible has endeared her to colleagues and patients alike.

While she knows that, to be successful and valued in her career, she must be trustworthy and dependable, she tries not to beat herself up over past slip-ups. Learning from her mistakes and moving forward have kept her on a direct path to success. An important step on that path has been her continuing education: she recently received her certificate in Medical Billing and Coding, and next year she’ll be graduating with her Bachelor of Science in Legal and Administrative Studies!

Success aside, the greatest joy of Alicia’s life is raising her 5-year-old daughter, Ella—and expecting Ella’s little sister any day now!

Employee Spotlight: Colleen Weeks, LCDP

Colleen is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Professional, currently working at the Phoenix House Exeter Men’s Residential Unit. This November she will celebrate twelve years with Phoenix House New England!

Helping others on a daily basis is important to Colleen, and she takes pride in being part of a team that strives to change lives. Being able to connect with her patients and give them hope for building a life in recovery is one of the greatest rewards of her job. At the same time, she has learned the importance of setting healthy boundaries in her work, and she credits the tremendous supervisors she has worked with over the years with helping her to feel confident in a leadership position.

Family time is priceless to Colleen, whether walking a trail with her boyfriend and dog, or sitting in the stands at her grandsons’ football and baseball games. And she was overjoyed to welcome her first granddaughter on September 14th! Another of her great pleasures is window shopping: she finds it very therapeutic to spend hours in a store and emerge without buying a thing!

Colleen shares this piece of wisdom with her patients: “It’s never to late if you start now!” Taking these words to heart herself, she returned to school and recently finished her degree in Human Development and Family Science. Congratulations!
