This month, as we look back on some of 2025’s most meaningful moments, we’re proud to share a beautiful feature from Ocean State Media ART, Inc. that captures the heart of Rhode Island’s connection to the AIDS Memorial Quilt and the powerful community built through remembrance, healing, and storytelling.

At AIDS Project Rhode Island, we’re honored to help carry this tradition forward. Through workshops and community gatherings, APRI creates space for people to remember loved ones lost to AIDS, learn from Rhode Island’s history, and come together to craft new Quilt panels that preserve these stories for future generations.

These panels are more than fabric. They are memories, tributes, and reminders of the lives we lost too soon — and of the community that continues to honor them.

As we wrap up the year, let's revisit a special highlight ❤️

A major milestone for AIDS Project Rhode Island. This April marked the 40th Anniversary of the APRI Run/Walk for Life, which saw a record-breaking turnout. The community showed up in full force to honor four decades of compassion, support, and advocacy for Rhode Islanders affected by HIV.

To commemorate the anniversary, APRI Director David Martins shared a powerful reflection in The Boston Globe on Rhode Island’s journey through the HIV/AIDS crisis and the road still ahead.

Read the full commentary: “40 Years Later: Rhode Island’s Journey Through the HIV/AIDS Crisis and the Road to Zero”:

If we commit the necessary resources now, we can write the final chapter in the history of HIV, writes the director of AIDS Project Rhode Island.

On , we honor the people and stories that shape our work, the clients who trust us, the families who stand with them, and the community that continues to show resilience in the face of stigma and loss.

Even as the conversation around HIV has quieted, the need for understanding, prevention, and care has not. Today is a reminder that compassion and action must continue every day of the year.

In a new Providence Journal op-ed, our Director David Martins shares how Rhode Islanders can support meaningful change and help ensure no one feels alone in this fight.

The epidemic hasn’t ended, the author says, it’s just gotten quieter. And in that silence, stigma grows louder.

We’re honored to highlight the recent piece by Ocean State Media: “Stitching Love and Loss: Rhode Island’s Enduring Bond with the AIDS Memorial Quilt.” 🪡✨ In it, Rhode Islanders reflect on decades of healing, remembrance, and art as they honor lives lost to HIV/AIDS through the powerful tradition of quilt-making.

From Providence neighborhoods to panel-making workshops across the state, people of all ages — adults and children alike — have contributed panels to the AIDS Memorial Quilt, memorializing loved ones and paying tribute to community members, known and unknown.
