Did you know that Ayurveda has a great deal to say about the importance of oral health—and the practice of oral hygiene?

🦷 We all know that brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleanings are essential. But very few of us look forward to going to the dentist, even for routine check-ups.

For whatever reason, there is a great deal of fear and shame attached to dentistry, which can mean that, on a cultural scale, oral health receives far less attention than it deserves.

🪥 But many people find that their oral health improves dramatically when they adopt Ayurvedic oral hygiene practices—which can also help reduce or eliminate the occurrence of dreaded dental problems like cavities, receding gums, tooth sensitivity, and cracked teeth.

Medical and dental professionals know that our oral health is an important window into our overall health and that issues in the mouth can (and do) affect the deeper organs and tissues of the body.

Interestingly, Ayurveda has acknowledged a link between oral health and overall health for thousands of years—even sharing striking parallels with the revelations of modern science.
Prioritizing oral health ensures that our teeth and gums remain as intact as possible, rendering dental visits less scary, less painful, and minimally invasive while simultaneously supporting robust overall health and well-being.

Ayurvedic oral hygiene practices also enhance the sense of taste, support detoxification, encourage optimal digestive strength, and bolster immunity.

Every organ in the body is affected by acidity. Our lungs, bones, brain, heart, liver, kidneys, stomach, intestines and skin. Bottom line – if your body is too acidic, then you’re not going to be feeling that great.
When our bodies enter a state of acidosis, it becomes the perfect breeding ground where illness and disease can easily manifest. A body that maintains its alkaline set-point will have less chronic inflammation – one of the number one causes of pretty much any disease.
After a lifetime of consuming a Standard American Diet (SAD), the body remains in a constant state of acidity. When the body is in a chronic acidic state, precious minerals are removed from vital organs and bones to neutralize the acid and remove it from the body. This is why we are seeing an up-rise in osteoporosis – your bones are literally being leached of the precious minerals needed to protect them (like calcium, sodium, magnesium, and potassium). Once these mineral reserves are completely depleted, there are no more reserves to draw upon, and the body just continues to run more and more acidic – and this is when major disease (like cancer) starts to show up.

Most grains, dairy products, soy, and meats are acidic. Coffee, alcohol, highly processed foods, refined sugar, sugar replacements and GMO oils (and GMO food altogether) are also highly acidic. When we eat (anything for that matter), acidic waste products are generated from the metabolism of these foods. These waste products must be neutralized or excreted – and so this is where alkaline foods come in. They literally neutralize the acids of an unhealthy diet.

✨Happiness is a gut feeling.✨
There have been many fascinating scientific discoveries around Gut Health and the implications it has on our Physical and Mental Wellness.
You probably don’t spend a lot of time thinking about what is going on inside of your gut unless you have digestive problems. However, in the last two decades, science has made some real progress in understanding just how important gut health is to our overall health.
Numerous studies confirm that an unhealthy gut negatively influences our immune system, mood, and mental health. Gut inflammation also increases our risk of developing autoimmune disease, endocrine disorders, skin conditions, and yes, even cancer.

This means recognizing symptoms and learning how to improve gut health naturally is of the utmost importance.

A healthy gut is key to our vitality. This may seem obvious because our gut is the gatekeeper for the food and water that fuels our organic existence.
But a healthy gut is not about digestion alone.
Where we once thought disease was related to genetic expression, we recognize that it has everything to do with the tiny bugs that live inside of us.
Gastrointestinal health is the root cause for many health conditions, especially regarding the brain and mental health.
Our health has everything to do with our microbiome.
This is great news for us because we now have hope!
We no longer have to fear things outside of our control such as our familial genes. We can influence our health by protecting our gut with a diverse microbiome.

Our gut balance can be easily thrown off by poor diet choices, stress, lack of sleep, antibiotic overuse, and all kinds of environmental influences.

Ways to help heal your gut naturally:

•Drink bone broth
•Enjoy a morning detox drink
•Avoid chemical hand sanitizers
•Get enough sleep & minimize stress
•Limit caffeine, sugar & alcohol
•Spend more time in nature
•Avoid processed foods
•Supplement with probiotics
•Eat local, organic & in-season
•Exercise 3-5 times a week

Everyone wants to have a clean and healthy smile, and achieving one involves the practice of good oral hygiene. But accomplishing that can be difficult when a good number of commercial toothpastes are made with questionable ingredients. These ingredients can range from endocrine disruptors to carcinogens — all of them have no business being near your teeth and gums. Before you squeeze a dollop of toothpaste onto your toothbrush, look out for these ingredients: 🪥🦷
