NAMI Rhode Island was founded in 1983 by family members of people with serious mental illness as a grassroots, volunteer organization joined together to improve services for persons who are diagnosed with mental illness. Today we support education, research and other efforts to reduce stigma and discrimination against consumers of mental health services and their families which will finally lead to understanding and cure for this common health disorder.

Join us! Becoming Whole is a 3-month guided journey into self-awareness, emotional insight, and compassion, offered in collaboration with NAMI Rhode Island and Sarah Elizabeth, Author, Speaker, and Coach.

This free program creates a supportive space to explore identity, patterns, and the inner narratives that shape our lives.

Through reflection and conversation, participants are invited to release judgment, reconnect with themselves, and move toward a deeper sense of wholeness—exactly as they are.

Join us April 16th at 10AM on Zoom for our NAMI RI Women's Support Group Speaker Series featuring guest speaker Author Tamie Gangloff MA, MFT. Tami is a therapist, educator, and author whose work lives at the intersection of chronic illness, recovery, and resilience. She is a retired athlete, a chronic illness patient, and a scoliosis and spine fusion patient, whose personal journey deeply informs her professional work and is featured in her book, Chronic Illness and Eating Disorders: Assessment, Clinical Skills and Lived Experiences.

Tamie has worked across all levels of care for eating disorders and substance use, teaches Eating Disorder Psychology at West Chester University, and has presented nationally and internationally, including at SOSORT, on the psychological and emotional impact of scoliosis, medical trauma, and body image. She brings both clinical insight and lived experience to honest conversations about body trust, identity, grief, and resilience—especially when healing isn’t linear and there’s no clear finish line. NAMI’s theme for this year is more than a message — it’s how we move from silence to healing, together.

For too long, stigma has kept people quiet about their mental health. But when we speak up, we make space for understanding, connection, and healing.

So how do we begin? By sharing our stories.

When you share your story, you show someone else they are not alone. You help turn silence into support — and strengthen the path toward healing for all of us.

Join NAMI this Mental Health Awareness Month.
Share your story. Help break the silence: nami.org/mham
