It's never too early to start reading! Literacy isn’t something that begins in school; it begins at birth.
Brain development is most rapid during the first five years, especially in the first three. During this time, children’s brains are forming the neural connections necessary for language, attention, memory, and emotional regulation — all of which are essential for reading. By building strong verbal and social-emotional skills early on, we lay the foundation for reading success in the school years.

Thank you to our Board Chair, John Bennetts for sharing this picture of his of his 8-week-old son, Graham. We love it! 📚💞🧠

We had a wonderful time connecting with colleagues at the Reach Out and Read and Nurture Connection National Summit in Washington DC last week. It was amazing to hear about the great work happening around our country to support and strengthen families. Our RI program is also thrilled to share that we received grant funding to explore and extend our work with Head Start and Early Intervention!

Celebrate Children’s Book Week, November 3-9!
Children’s Book Week is a national week-long event that celebrates books for young readers. 2025 is the 106th anniversary of this beloved program, and this year’s event slogan is An Ocean of Stories. This slogan celebrates the vast, collective ocean populated by the stories we read, share, and tell.
Every Child a Reader, the literacy charity behind Children’s Book
Week, has a ton of free resources online that you can use at home
to keep the celebrations going — bookmarks, activity sheets, story
starters, poems, and more. And if you love the poster by the amazing
Julie Flett, you can download a coloring page to color your own! https://everychildareader.net/cbw Child a Reader Children's Book Council
