PVD Doula

PVD Doula I support women and their families throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum by providing evidence based information and physical and emotional support.

Birth is a personal, life changing event in a woman's life. She will tell her birth story forever. I am committed to helping expectant mothers make the best, most informed decisions for their family and to being the extra support that they and their partners desire to have a positive birth experience. More information about me and about birth doulas can be found at PVDdoula.com

One of our biggest challenges at the moment is time spent helping families who call their insurance and are not getting their questions answered. Rhode Island has support for this! RIPIN both helps you get your questions answered in a timely fashion and can provide feedback where needed.

Here is a note from our insurance commissioner’s office:

OHIC can contact the insurers and notify them of the need for further customer service education surrounding doula benefit offerings. If families would like to file a formal complaint with OHIC regarding the misinformation they received by an insurer or regarding the lack of insurer responsiveness to doula inquiries – I encourage you to direct families to OHIC’s website to file a formal complaint. Most of these calls are recorded and with specific family incidents we can narrow down the individual(s) who require further education.

Note that the BCBSRI model is reimbursement model based on those doulas that are CPD and taking that form of insurance. Please connect with you doula. NO doula is in network, therefore you are taking on an OUT OF NETWORK provider, it is NOT fully covered. You will have to submit for reimbursement.

If you are looking for a doula have BCBSRI (pls confirm it's RI) note it is a reimbursement based process. The amount you will be reimbursed is set by your insurance company and could be less than the cost of your doula. A Certified Perinatal Doula is listed on the RI Certification Board website.
