Professor Ioannis “Yanni” Yannas (1935–2025)
It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of the wonderful wound pioneer, Dr Ioannis Yannas. Dr Yannas was probably best known for his invention of Integra, a bovine collagen matrix with a silicone backing used to treat excised burn and some chronic wounds.

Dr Yannas trained as a physical chemist and engineer with expertise in polymers and joined the MIT Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Harvard-MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology.

The Wound Healing Foundation invites you to submit an abstract for presentation at the 2026 MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s Functional Diabetic Limb Salvage Conference: A Team Approach in collaboration with the Wound Healing Foundation. This is an excellent opportunity for you and your colleagues to share your latest work and research with world-renowned experts in the field!

Abstracts will be reviewed and selected for scientific merit and content quality. Submitted abstracts meeting the eligibility requirements will be considered for Oral and Poster Abstracts. Poster abstracts will be displayed during the conference in the Abstract Hall on Wednesday, April 8 to Saturday, April 11. Oral Abstracts will be presented on Wednesday, April 8 and the top 3 on Saturday, April 11 as part of the Greg Schultz Abstract Presentations and awards. On Thursday, April 9, 2026, 2026 at 10:30 am EST, Dr Mojsov will deliver the T.K. Hunt Lecture: “GLP-1: From a Putative Peptide to Effective Medicines for Diabetes and Obesity” as the WHF Keynote Address at the Diabetic Limb Salvage Conference: A Team Approach with the Wound Healing Foundation.
