For 46 years, Octavio Tavares has been lighting up the Rhode Island Hospital campus with his bright smile and electrical skills. He started working at the hospital while still in high school, as a member of the housekeeping team. In 1983, he moved to the electrical shop in facilities management, which sparked his interest in electrical work and inspired him to begin an electrical apprenticeship in the evenings.

“I enjoy being an electrician and take pride in what I do,” Octavio says. “I am dedicated to my trade and take satisfaction in solving electrical challenges. I like working on a project from start to finish and seeing it completed in a timely and professional way.”

Octavio jokes that he is a jack of all trades, but a master of one – electrical. He offers the same advice he was given early in his career. “The sky’s the limit – you can achieve anything you want.”
