Due to a significant rise in flu and other respiratory virus cases across our community, Brown University Health is moving to Respiratory Virus Status RED, effective Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

What this means for patients and visitors:
😷 Level 2 surgical masks are required at all times for patients, visitors and staff in our hospitals and clinics. Masks will be provided to patients and visitors at entrances.

This step is being taken in response to increased influenza cases in Rhode Island and Massachusetts and higher numbers of flu-related emergency visits and hospitalizations. Our goal is to protect patients, visitors, and care teams and reduce further spread.

Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

Our patients enjoy talking to him, petting him, and simply sitting with Gunner, receiving support and comfort. Away from the hospital, Gunner likes to sit in people’s laps, play with the other two dogs in his house, run on the beach, jump on chairs and benches, and chew on his toys and his family’s socks.
