Dry Face??? Tips to help:

Frequently the cleansers we use on our face work too well. We have all felt it when our skin feels dry or tight after a “good cleaning”. Most of us attempt to solve this with a layer of an emollient like lotion. But there are better ways to get clean without a lot of the collateral damage.

Step 1: Use a mild cleanser. In our dry climate, this is doubly important. Some of the soaps and cleansers out there are so strong I wonder if the cleaning power is outdone by the damage they cause. If your face feels off after using a product, it likely is off. Go mild and the need to repair is lessened.

Step 2: Add a toner to your regimen. A toner is a liquid solution that restores your skin’s pH back to normal after the cleanser shifts it as part of the process of cleaning your face. But toners can also be used to remove impurities (we do this in our clinic all the time.) Toner can also target specific skin needs like hydration. And lastly, it can prep the skin for later treatments like serum or moisturizers making them work better.

Step 3: Moisturize. You don’t have to break the bank here. Many people do fair with a quality general purpose lotion like Aveeno. But finding a great moisturizer to target your specific skin is a game changer. For me that was finding something a little thicker and more nourishing--Barrier Renewal Complex by EltaMD Skin Care. Combined with their Toner and Night Mask, my skin hasn't felt this good for decades. --Dr. Blake

Dr Bayo Curry-Winchell is spot on with this. That is one reason we added our body composition scale from seca Medical. That way we can talk about the real you.

Meet Ram
Ram is a 3rd year NOORDA medical student doing his family medicine rotation with us. It's been a pleasure having Ram with us over the past few weeks and getting to know him. He grew up in Buffalo and has lived all over upstate New York, Hawaii (Oahu), Seattle, San Francisco, and now Utah. He attended Union College Schenectady New York and graduated in 2015 (oldest college in New York State). It was a combined program to get his MBA. His bachelors degree was in chemistry and economics where he also completed a
study abroad in France and Spain focusing on economics and history. He has traveled/backpacked on his own through many different countries. His top 3 favorite countries are: New Zealand, Chile, and Hawaii. Ram likes NOORDA for the slower pace of education. His hobbies include (outside of traveling) being in the mountains, snowboarding (when there’s snow), hiking, cooking, spending time with his 2 cats, and considers himself a cat dad. Ram enjoys working directly with patients in the hospital and is leaning toward internal medicine, pediatrics or family medicine (Dr. Blake is working hard to convince him that Family medicine is the best program and the most fun when it comes to doctoring and taking care of patients-😉).

Vetted Skin Care Products

I don't know about you, but when I see one of those stores where they have every imaginable skin care product, I ask myself, how does someone working there keep them all straight?

At Blake Family Medicine we offer a modest selection of vetted skin care products. Products we selected because they help our patients. That way our patients can have access to both proven prescription care and proven OTC care for their skin care needs.

As an example, we stock a dozen or so acne care products. There are a bunch I don't offer. Not because they don't work, but because the prescription option is better/cheaper.

We can do this because we are a Direct Primary Care clinic. That means I work directly for my patients.
