Measles is once again being identified in Utah, and we want our community to stay informed and protected. While this illness was once eliminated in the U.S., 58 new cases have been reported in the past three weeks. Staying aware and taking simple preventive steps can help keep everyone safe.

The most effective protection against measles is receiving the MMR vaccine when eligible and staying home when feeling sick. Vaccination remains our strongest tool for preventing the spread of measles. We do rely on herd immunity to help protect our most vulnerable populations. Those who are not vaccinated against measles are at an increased risk.

If you or your children develop cold-like symptoms followed by a rash, please stay home from work, school, and public places. The measles rash typically appears 3–5 days after the onset of cold-like symptoms.

📞 Before visiting a clinic or hospital, call your healthcare provider first. This allows them to prepare for your arrival and take the proper precautions to protect you and others.
