Winter can be really hard on mental health.

Less daylight can affect your circadian rhythm, energy levels, and mood, which is why many people experience Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) or worsening depression during the winter months.

The good news:
As daylight increases, many people naturally start to feel a little better. ☀️

If winter has been tough on your mental health, you’re not alone. You’ve made it through the toughest parts!

Most people mean well, but when someone is struggling with infertility comments like “just relax” or “at least…” can land in ways you didn’t intend.

Infertility isn’t just medical- it’s grief, loss of control, and disappointment. It can be complex and deeply personal.

If someone you love is going through this, give them a hug today.

And if you’re the one walking through it, your hurt makes sense and you’re not alone.

Our clinicians specialize in infertility and perinatal mental health. If you or someone you know needs extra support, we’re here for you💙

Most emotional reactions are temporary chemical waves in the body, yet we’re rarely taught how to ride them.

Instead, we react, defend, shut down, or spiral.

The 90-second rule is simple:
Pause. Breathe. Let the wave pass before you act.

Regulation isn’t about suppressing emotions.
It’s about giving your nervous system time to settle so you can choose your response.

If you feel like your emotions run your life, therapy can help you build tools to feel steadier and more in control. You deserve that kind of stability.

Many of us learned early that love meant keeping the peace.
Managing the mood.
Anticipating reactions.
Smoothing things over.

But here’s what’s actually true:
You are responsible for how you show up.
You are not responsible for how everyone feels about it.

Boundaries may create discomfort, but discomfort does not always equal harm.

If you constantly feel guilty for other people’s emotions, that’s often a pattern you learned to survive, not weakness.

And it’s okay to unlearn it. If this hits close to home, therapy can help you untangle what’s yours to carry and what isn’t. You don’t have to figure that out alone💙

Thinking about starting therapy but not sure where to begin? 💙

We hear it all the time: questions like “Do I need a diagnosis?” or “How do I know if therapy is right for me?”

In this post, we’re answering the questions we hear most often from people just like you, covering therapy, insurance, confidentiality, and how to get started.

You don’t have to have all the answers to reach out. If something feels heavy, that’s enough.

When we talk about self-love, it can sound cliché, like spa days, affirmations, or “just be confident.” But real self-love is much quieter and much braver than that.

It’s the voice in your head when you make a mistake.
It’s how you respond when your body disappoints you.
It’s what you believe about your worth when life doesn’t look the way you hoped.

Loving yourself means:
• Speaking to yourself with kindness instead of criticism
• Letting yourself rest without earning it
• Setting boundaries without guilt
• Allowing grief, longing, or complicated emotions without shame

For some, Valentine’s Day feels joyful. For others, it brings comparison, waiting, grief, loss, relationship strain, or loneliness. If this time feels heavy, you're not alone.

And sometimes, learning how to treat yourself gently takes practice. Therapy can be a space to rebuild that relationship with yourself — one that is steady, compassionate, and safe.

This Valentine’s Day, start here:
Talk to yourself like someone you care about. 💙

This Valentine’s season, we’re trading “BE MINE” for reminders you might need, because mental health isn’t about being perfect, positive, or put together.
If you could pick one heart to carry with you this week… which would it be? ❤️

At New Beginnings Counseling Group, we help individuals and couples build relationships with themselves and each other that feel steady, safe, and supported.
If your heart needs more than candy this year, we’re here.

Save this for when you need the reminder.

Most relationship problems aren’t meant to be “solved.”

Research from the Gottman Institute shows that about 69% of conflicts in couples are perpetual, meaning they don’t go away completely. The goal isn’t to eliminate disagreement, but to manage conflict safely and repair connection when things feel tense.

At NBCG, our trained couples therapists use the Gottman method to help partners slow down conflict, understand what’s underneath it, and practice safer ways to communicate and repair together. 💙

If you need additional support in your relationship, you can schedule your first appointment today by calling (801) 683-6830 or visiting our website: https://nbcgutah.com/
