In the wake of Tim Keller's recent passing, I wanted to share one of my favorite statements from him—an idea that has been at the heart of my thinking over the last few years. We all hunger to be seen, known, and loved. Yet, we often hide the parts of ourselves that we judge unloveable. In doing so, we prevent ourselves from experiencing the very thing we crave most.

Therefore, to be fully seen and known, and thus be able to receive the love that others offer, we must take the "exquisite risk" of fully showing up in the world.

Over the last few decades, there's been a revolution of sorts in Western medicine, medicine, and mental health. It seems like almost everyone these days has some awareness of mindfulness—it's become a buzzword.

So what is mindfulness exactly?

Mindfulness—or, since it can also be translated from Eastern languages as "heartfulness"—is a compassionate presence that allows for a deeper awareness of and intimacy with ourselves, others, and the world.

Mindfulness is a "heart-full" approach to life—*anything* in life—that involves being intentionally and fully present with an attitude of compassion, curiosity, non-judgment, acceptance, allowing, and openness.

Since so much of our approach to the world begins through a lens of judgment, it undermines our capacity to learn from our experiences, to learn from others, and thus to act with power. And since understanding and awareness precede power, it puts us in a position with less power to act, and more vulnerable to *re*act.

I’ve been a practicing therapist for almost 15 years now, have been teaching part-time for 10 years, and have been engaged in a number of different non-profits, ministries, viewpoint-diverse thinktanks, and research endeavors… and have never had a place to pull it all together…

And, there’s much more to come! I’m at an inflection point in my professional career as I shift the balance of some of the things I’m doing, and as I’m working on a number of different projects that I’m excited about.

So, with that, I’ve finally launched my own personal website—TyMansfield.com—into which I’ve compiled and organized the work I’ve done up to this point, and with a larger themed frame of the projects and focus I’m leaning into, including increased engagement with social media.

And I want to invite you all along for the ride!

If you’re interested in hearing more of what’s coming, and being the first to know about new projects, or articles I’m writing, or thoughts via social media, please check out my website and:

• Sign up for my newsletter
• Follow me on professional Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts

You can also read, listen, and watch previously-published articles, podcasts, and addresses on a number of topics.

I’d love to stay connected! ❤️🙏🏼
