Yesterday the FDA approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for people 16 years and older. ACOG and SMFM who are both leading nationwide organizations in women's health and pregnancy both recommend the COVID-19 vaccine in pregnant and breastfeeding patients, along with patients attempting pregnancy. There is NO evidence that the COVID-19 vaccine increases the risk of infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth, or other pregnancy related complications. There IS growing evidence that COVID-19 INFECTION in pregnant moms increases the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, placental injury, and preterm birth. We at Associates in Women's Health Care encourage everyone who qualifies to go out and get the COVID-19 vaccine so we can help ourselves, our community, and our nation fight and overcome this pandemic. Happy nurses week to all the nurses out there and special shout out to our amazing labor and delivery nurses! Thanks for being our eyes and ears when we can't be there, for supporting our patients through the best and worst times of their lives (and for supporting us in these times too), for rolling your eyes when we ask to borrow your stethoscope...again, for keeping extra pens handy, and for being an indispensable part of an amazing team!!!

This last year has opened our eyes to how much teachers do to support our children and how challenging their jobs are. Dr. Fernando Mahmoud is a board certified ob/gyn and has been with Associates in Women's Health Care since 2011. Prior to moving to Colorado he was practicing in Argentina and Chicago. He's a pro at delivering babies and well trained in robotic surgery. He is passionate about helping women achieve the best version of themselves and from this arose Mona Lisa Pueblo. You can usually find him at the cross fit gym, watching soccer, or kickin it with his family.

Today marks the end of National Infertility Awareness Week. Infertility is defined as not being able to get pregnant after 1 year of regular unprotected in*******se. For women age 35 and older this time frame is shortened to 6 months. Up to 15% of couples experience infertility, approximately 40% of these couples have male factor causes of infertility, and 30% will have unexplained infertility. Our providers can help you with an infertility workup which usually includes lab work, imaging, and a semen analysis. We are also able to offer you various medications and intrauterine insemination (IUI) if needed or refer you to a fertility specialist for in vitro fertilization (IVF). Infertility is not often talked about because of embarrassment or social stigmas, but don't let that get in the way of how you picture your family. Make an appointment to talk to one of us, we are here for you.

This year Associates in Women's Health Care celebrates it's 50th birthday! We are honored to have provided care for women and their families and to have been part of the Pueblo community for so long, and look forward to another 50 years.
