A sad reality of the veterinary field and for dog lovers in general is canine cancer. One of those we see too often is Lymphoma. As with human cancer, there are different stages, and depending on how early it’s detected as well as other factors, treatment may be an option. It’s a heartbreaking situation; we understand, we’ve been through it, too. If, Heaven forbid, your beloved dog is diagnosed with this disease, we’re here to help guide you through what the next steps are.

Let’s remember and honor those who will forever me in our hearts - please share a picture of a pet you’ve lost to Lymphoma.

November is National Diabetes Month. "Diabetes mellitus, or diabetes, is a common, treatable condition in both people and certain pets that occurs when the body can’t use glucose (a type of sugar) normally."

"Successful treatment of diabetes requires regular monitoring, including veterinary checkups, blood and urine tests, and assessments of your pet’s weight, appetite, drinking, and urination. Your veterinarian may need to adjust the treatment schedule from time to time, based on these results.

The aim of treatment is to keep your pet’s blood sugar levels within a healthy range to prevent complications and maintain a good quality of life." -www.avma.org/

One large factor that can contribute to this disease is obesity. Keeping your pet trim and physically active are some of the best things you can do for them.

November is Pet Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that each year approximately TWELVE MILLION (12,000,000) dogs and cats are diagnosed with cancer? That’s gut-wrenching for us animal lovers.

There are some things you can do to give your pet their best chance at prevention or early detection including regular checkups, a healthy, well-balanced diet, teeth cleaning, and exercise.

Learn early warning signs and schedule a vet appointment right away if you notice any of the following:
- Abnormal Lumps - firm, grows quickly, or seems painful.
- Unexplained Weight Loss.
- Sores that don’t heal.
- Unusual odors - including the mouth, face, and other areas.
- Loss of Appetite or Difficulty Eating.
- Stiffness and/or Limping.
- Breathing difficulty - A chronic cough or labored breathing.
- Behavioral changes - “Sudden aggression, hiding, or anxiety can be symptoms of internal discomfort and may indicate an underlying health issue.”
- Change in Bathroom Habits - “Changes in urination or bowel movements, including blood, unusual frequency, or accidents”.
- Hesitation to exercise.
- Unexplained bleeding or discharge.
- Vomiting and Diarrhea (though these can be symptoms of a multitude of concerns, even a simple “cold”)
