Robert James Sunderland

Robert James “Bob” Sunderland, 84, of Mahaffey, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 at his home.

He was born July 29, 1941 to William T. and Bessie R. (Lee) Sunderland.

Bob attended the Mahaffey High School and graduated in 1960 from Purchase Line High School. He worked for Readers Digest in White Plains NY for over 20 years before his retirement. Bob attended Banner Ridge Church and he was a member of the Deer Run Rod and Gun Club. Bob was avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking.

He is survived by eight siblings; Mary Pennington, Mahaffey, Shirley Sunderland, DuBois, Nancy DeYoung, Lewistown, Evelyn Slonaker and husband Isaiah, Zionsville, Janet Irvin and husband John, Homer City, Linda Hester, Salt Lake City, UT, Judy Stewart and husband Kurt, Lewistown, and Roger Sunderland, Mahaffey and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Christopher Sunderland, two sisters; Surilla Leamer and Catherine Snow, a brother, Thomas Sunderland and a nephew, Ronald Pennington.

Friends will be received at Waldron Funeral Home, 831 Market Street, Mahaffey, PA 15757 on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 5-7 PM and on Monday January 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM with Pastor James Hurd officiating.

Leonard Eugene Barnett

Leonard Eugene Barnett, 65, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh with his family by his side.

He was born June 2, 1960, to Emerson and Marie (Sowers) Barnett in Punxsutawney.

He was a 1978 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. He started working at Mack’s Automotive when he was 16. He worked there for 22 years and also painted cars as a side job. He went to work for JR Resources in 1998 and retired in 2023. Leonard enjoyed visiting with his friends, painting vehicles, attending tractor shows, and helping with his son’s autocross racing. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mechele R. (Bouch) Barnett, five children; Nicholas A. Barnett, (Stephanie), Blue Grass, IA, Patricia L. Barnett (Jerry Andrade), VA, Del W. Bouch (Chelsea), David L. Barnett (Melissa) and Danyka A. Riddle (Luke), all of Punxsutawney, ten grandchildren; Meghan Barnett, Brayden Andrade, Taylor Andrade, Kayla Bouch, Dravin Bouch, Rylan Bouch, Carter Bouch, Lenore Bouch, Chevy Barnett, and Ryker Barnett, his mother-in-law, Anna B. Bouch, Punxsutawney, a sister Anna Marie Ryder, FL, a brother-in-law Donald D. Bouch, Rossiter, a niece Jennifer Paul (Matt), Mechanicsburg, and a nephew Robert Paul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; Gary Barnett and Paul “Barney” Barnett, and his father-in-law Donald “Bill” W. Bouch.

Friends will be received on Friday from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.

Sally M. Sprankle

Sally M. Sprankle, 90, of Punxsutawney, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025 at Mulberry Square Elder Care.

Sally was born June 24, 1935 to the late Benjamin and Mabel (Rosborough) White in Punxsutawney.

She married the love of her life Merle "Peewee" Sprankle of Punxsutawney on August 1, 1953 and they were married 64 years before his passing in 2017.

Sally was an amazing cook and enjoyed cooking for her family. She also devoted her time for many years in preparing funeral dinners for her church family and friends. She was always available to lend a helping hand to many of her neighbors and friends in their time of need.

Sally is survived by a daughter Deborah (Ronald) Bishop of Alabama, a daughter-in-law Melissa Guidash Sprankle (Butch White) of Punxsutawney, a son-in-law Joe Kidd of Home, a brother Fred White of Punxsutawney, four grandchildren; Amberlea (Michael) Reed of Georgia, Ronnie (Jodi) Bishop of Georgia, Shane (Somer) Baun of Punxsutawney and Amanda Bishop Miller of Georgia, eight great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by a son Douglas Sprankle, a daughter Linda Baun-Kidd, a sister Rebecca Roush and a sister-in-law Irene White.

Friends will be received from 1pm until the time of service at 4pm on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Avenue, Punxsutawney, PA 15767 with Paster Doug Wolfe officiating.

She will be laid to rest at Union Hill Cemetery in Rossiter.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to 365 Hospice or St Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
