Craniofacial surgery update ***
We have met with a new team via TeleMed in New York City at Columbia University… Dr. Thomas Imahiyerobo
We are moving forward with imaging and testing for reconstruction of Kory’s midface…
Kory has a 16+mm gap between his upper and lower jaw, which creates a severe underbite, in addition to his underdeveloped midface…
Over the next several months, we need to complete CT imaging, Orthodontic Panorex, Sleep Study test, and a letter from his endocrinologist/orthopedics regarding percent of remaining growth and when we might expect he will be off Voxzogo daily injections …
The procedure should be done when he is completely off the injection called Voxzogo and his growth plates are closed …
Considering he just got approved for another year on Voxzogo, it appears it may follow through like this…
After all upcoming testing is complete, we will schedule an appointment to meet in person sometime late spring early summer 2026… at that time we coordinate with a local orthodontist per surgeons instructions to begin orthodontic treatment summer/fall 2026 with braces and possible palate expander 6 months prior to facial reconstruction …
This is a multi surgeon/doctor procedure and all teams need to be working together…
Kory will have a local orthodontist as well as an orthodontist in New York City … they will coordinate and work together with the craniofacial surgeon in New York City to begin lining the teeth up 6 months prior, throughout the procedure and continuing with orthodontic treatment until after the distraction and consolidation of his midface …
We do not know which facial procedure they will choose until we meet in person next year …
Doing the surgery too soon with growth plates open, could potentially lead to doing the procedure twice!
