🚑 Instructor Spotlight: Tanya King, MSN, RN, CEN

“Once you’ve been an ER nurse, you’re always an ER nurse.”

For Tanya King, emergency nursing isn’t just a specialty — it’s part of who she is. From travel nursing across the country to leading education in a busy Massachusetts Emergency Department, Tanya has built a career grounded in determination, resilience, and trust in her clinical instincts.

Now, as an ACLS Academy instructor teaching BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC, she brings that same real-world intensity into the classroom. Her goal is simple but powerful:

👉 When learners leave, they should feel like they can save a life.

Whether she’s teaching cardiac rhythms, supporting new nurses, or running a code during a snowstorm shift, Tanya shows up with calm confidence and a deep commitment to evidence-based practice.

We’re proud to have this determined, grateful, forever-ER-nurse on the ACLS Academy team.

CPR and life-saving skills require regular reinforcement to stay sharp.

Studies show compression accuracy, timing, and response confidence can decline over time without practice. Renewal training helps rebuild muscle memory and ensures providers can respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.

If it’s been a while since your last course, it might be time to renew and refresh your skills.

A man collapsed in a restaurant in Glendora, Mississippi.

Before EMS could arrive, someone stepped forward and began CPR.

That person was James “Pound” Willis.

Just weeks earlier, Pound had become a certified American Heart Association HeartSaver Instructor through training with ACLS Academy and Partners in Development.

Relying on his training, he directed someone to call 911 and began high-quality CPR. After several minutes of compressions, the man began breathing again.

EMS arrived nearly 40 minutes later.

A life had already been saved.

Pound’s story is the powerful result of years of collaboration to bring life-saving training to the Mississippi Delta. What began as a small CPR class has grown into something bigger: a community building its own network of responders.

Read the full story of how one student became an instructor—and a lifesaver.

Your blood type may influence how easily your blood clots.

Research shows people with blood types A, B, and AB tend to have higher levels of clotting proteins like von Willebrand factor and factor VIII. While these proteins are essential to stop bleeding, higher levels can increase the risk of dangerous clots that may lead to a heart attack, stroke, or pulmonary embolism.

People with type O blood typically have lower levels of these clotting factors, which may slightly reduce their risk.

This doesn’t mean blood type determines your heart health. Factors like blood pressure, cholesterol, smoking, and physical activity have a much greater impact.

But understanding how clotting works helps healthcare professionals recognize risk faster and respond more effectively in emergencies.

Pediatric emergencies require more than general emergency training. They require specialized readiness.

In 2026, national healthcare organizations are reinforcing what emergency nurses already know: pediatric patients require distinct assessment, stabilization, and intervention strategies.

ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) helps clinicians build the structured decision-making, assessment confidence, and critical thinking skills needed to care for pediatric patients safely and effectively.

At ACLS Academy, ENPC is taught by experienced emergency and critical care professionals who bring real-world clinical insight into every course.

Strengthen your pediatric emergency competency. Strengthen patient outcomes.

Trauma nursing is not just about procedures. It is about thinking clearly when everything is moving fast.

The Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), developed by the Emergency Nurses Association, trains nurses to organize chaos, prioritize effectively, and make confident decisions under pressure. It reinforces a structured approach to trauma care that supports clear thinking in high-stakes situations.

At ACLS Academy, TNCC certification and renewal courses are taught by expert instructors and available through remote online learning, making high-quality trauma education more accessible when it matters most.

Preparation is built before the patient arrives.

Can a smartwatch help detect heart disease?

New research presented last fall at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions explored how artificial intelligence analyzed smartwatch ECG data to identify possible signs of structural heart disease. The findings are promising and point toward a future where technology may help flag risk earlier and prompt important conversations with healthcare providers.

But detection is only part of the story. When cardiac emergencies happen, preparedness still saves lives. CPR, AED use, and trained responders remain essential, no matter how advanced the technology becomes.

Innovation matters. Training matters more.

Friday, February 6, marks Go Red for Women Day, a reminder that women’s heart health deserves constant attention, preparedness, and action.

Heart disease remains the leading cause of death for women, and outcomes depend on how ready we are to respond when seconds matter. For medical professionals, preparedness means ongoing education, sharpened skills, and confidence under pressure. For communities, it means knowing how to act until advanced care arrives.

At ACLS Academy, training supports readiness at every level, from advanced life support for healthcare providers to CPR, AED, and First Aid education that strengthens the chain of survival for women everywhere.

February is Heart Month, and awareness is only the beginning.

Most cardiac emergencies happen outside the hospital, at work, in schools, and in everyday community spaces. In those moments, the people who act first are rarely medical professionals. They are coworkers, teachers, coaches, and bystanders who chose to be prepared.

This Heart Month, turn awareness into action. Take an AHA Heartsaver CPR, AED, and First Aid course at ACLS Academy equips individuals and organizations with the confidence and hands-on skills to respond when it matters most.

Prepared people save lives. Prepared workplaces do too.
