Why Wednesday is coming 🌿

Two of the most recognizable cannabis side effects are dry mouth and red eyes. But they’re not random — they’re tied to how cannabinoids interact with glands and blood vessels in the body.

This week’s Why Wednesday breaks down the science behind both.

Think of the body like a control board.

Heart rate. Mood. Pain signals. Sleep. Immune activity.

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) isn’t the engine running those systems ...
it’s more like the volume k**b for homeostasis.

When signals get too loud or too quiet, the ECS helps turn things up or down to keep the body in balance.

A built-in regulatory system that most people have never even heard of.

And it’s one of the most fascinating areas of human physiology we’re still learning about. 🌿

Why Wednesday is coming 🌿

One of the easiest ways to get more consistent results with cannabis has nothing to do with stronger products or higher doses.

It’s simply paying attention to patterns.

This week’s Why Wednesday breaks down why tracking your experience can make cannabis work better for you.

Why Wednesday is coming 🌿

Most people think cannabis effects are only about chemistry.

But knowledge, expectations, and confidence also influence how an experience feels.

This week’s Why Wednesday looks at something different: why education itself can change outcomes.

That’s not a failure — it’s a systems gap.

Cannabis education has lagged behind policy, and policy has lagged behind science. The result? Patients are left navigating dosing, product selection, drug interactions, and safety questions on their own.

This is where Cannabis Nurses step in.

We are trained in pharmacology, patient education, risk assessment, and care coordination. Our role isn’t to replace primary care — it’s to support it. We help patients make informed, evidence-based decisions while staying aligned with their existing healthcare team.

Until curriculum, regulation, and continuing education fully catch up, patients still deserve competent guidance.

That’s the gap we’re here to fill.

🩺 Surveyed physicians said that their patients frequently inquire about medical cannabis use, but most acknowledged "not feeling competent" discussing the issue – a finding that is consistent with other studies.

America doesn’t have a cannabis crisis.

It has an education gap, a policy gap, and decades of stigma layered over history.

For too long, cannabis policy has been shaped more by politics, racial injustice, and financial interests than by science. That legacy still affects how patients access care, how clinicians are trained, and how conversations happen in exam rooms.

As healthcare professionals, we can’t afford to rely on outdated narratives. We need evidence-based education, clear regulatory frameworks, and open dialogue so patients can make informed decisions safely.

The gap isn’t in the plant.

The gap is in the training, transparency, and policy infrastructure surrounding it.

That’s where education matters.

“America does not have a ma*****na crisis. It has a knowledge deficit, a training deficit and a regulatory deficit layered on top of decades of stigma.” By Jill Simonian and Codi Peterson, Pharmacists’ Cannabis Coalition of California The New York Times editorial board recently warned that Ame...
