There are tough days in rural Family Medicine, we all know that. But then there are the baby days 💗💙 and those moments remind us exactly why we do this.

Back in 2019, Dr. Anna started keeping a jar of blue and pink pacifiers for every baby she’s delivered at GCMC. And it’s filling up fast! And if we tried to collect pacifiers for all of Dr. Shelly’s babies? We’d need a whole wall of jars. 😄 We do have walls lined with pictures of babies our physicians have delivered and we are running out of wall space! What a gift.

No matter how many babies we’ve welcomed, each one is special. Thank you for trusting us to care for your families from the very first breath through every chapter of life. 🤍

GCMC was honored to have a booth at the Kansas HOSA Fall Conference in Manhattan! We had a great time visiting with hundreds of high school students from across Kansas who are passionate about pursuing careers in healthcare.

HOSA is a global, student-led organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, the Department of Health and Human Services, and numerous state and federal agencies. Their mission is to empower HOSA–Future Health Professionals to become leaders in the global health community through education, collaboration, and experience.

We loved meeting the next generation of healthcare professionals — the future is bright! Our hope is to help start a HOSA chapter right here in our local school(s) and continue inspiring students to explore the amazing opportunities in healthcare!

We know waiting can be tough! Over the past several years, we’ve worked REALLY hard to get you in, taken care of, and back on your way as quickly as possible.

The truth is, every visit is different. Sometimes a patient comes in for one concern, and it leads to another — or they realize they’ve been holding onto more than they thought. We take pride in treating the whole person, and sometimes that means taking a little extra time to listen and make sure every concern is addressed.

Our providers also cover the ER and deliver babies (and those little ones don’t always follow a schedule!). When those emergencies pop up, our patients are always so understanding — and we can’t thank you enough for that.

In rural healthcare, our team wears a lot of hats, and that can mean juggling quite a bit at once. We truly appreciate your kindness, your patience, and your trust as we do our best to care for everyone who walks through our doors.

Earlier this month, KAFP leaders proudly represented Kansas at the American Academy of Family Physicians’ Congress of Delegates (COD) — the Academy’s policy-making body that sets direction for family medicine nationwide. During the meeting, delegates from across the country debated and voted on resolutions, received updates from AAFP’s Board of Directors and commissions, and engaged in meaningful discussions about the future of family medicine.

Attending on behalf of Kansas were Drs. Doug Gruenbacher, Keith Ratzlaff, Chad Johanning, Lynn Fisher, Jeremy Presley and KAFP CEO Tarah Remington Brown.

Thank you to these members for taking time away from their families, practices, and patients to serve as our collective voice on the national stage. Their participation ensures that Kansas’ priorities remain part of the national conversation shaping the future of our specialty.
