As we head into the holiday season, we wanted to share our December 2025 – January 2026 urgent care and emergency availability.

While our hours will remain the same, please know this decision was not made lightly. We would truly love to be available for our community on every holiday. However, appropriate staffing continues to be one of the biggest challenges in the veterinary field, and our top priority will always be providing the highest standard of care possible.

Our goal moving into the new year is to continue growing our team so we can safely extend our hours, especially during holidays when emergencies tend to occur more frequently. In just four months, NRVES has expanded tremendously, and we are incredibly grateful for the trust you’ve placed in us and for allowing us to care for your pets. Please know that every single patient truly means the world to us💚

If you need us on days we are closed, please don’t hesitate to leave us a voicemail or send us an email—we are still here for you in every way we can be.

Thank you for your understanding, support, and kindness.

✨ Happy Holidays from all of us at NRVES ✨

This sweet 3-year-old boy, Bull — also known as “Boo Boo” came in to see us after several days of vomiting, not wanting to eat, and just not acting like himself.

Any guesses what the X-rays revealed? 👀

Cold weather brings several risks for our furry family members. Common winter dangers include antifreeze ingestion, hypothermia, frostbite, toxic seasonal plants, and holiday-related hazards such as decorations and certain festive foods. Each can lead to serious illness or injury, and prompt veterinary attention is essential.

If you suspect your pet has eaten something toxic, NRVES recommends calling ASPCA Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 before coming in.
Afterward, our emergency team can evaluate the exposure with bloodwork and imaging, provide IV fluids, administer activated charcoal or specific antidotes when appropriate, and treat cold-related injuries with controlled warming and wound care.

Our emergency team is on-site 24 hours this weekend!

Case Update!

Porter, a 4-year-old Border Collie, came to NRVES with a pretty intense nose laceration. Fast forward a week+ and his healing progress has been amazing! His owners shared that he’s finally getting his energy back and is once again acting like his self-propelled shop vac. We’re so happy to see him feeling like himself again💚

✨ Case Update! ✨

Meet Bug, a sweet Persian kitty who came to us in urgent need of Type B blood.

Type B is incredibly rare — its frequency varies greatly by breed and even by geographic location — which made this search especially challenging.

Our team spent hours on the phones, reaching as far as D.C., North Carolina, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Tennessee. Every emergency hospital we connected with was also out of Type B blood. It was truly an all-hands-on-deck effort.

But then our NRV community stepped in.
And because of one incredible donor — Mr. Oliver — Bug’s life was saved💚

To everyone who reached out, shared our search, or offered support: thank you. We appreciate you more than you know. Moments like this are exactly why we’re here — for our community and your beloved pets.

We’re here if you need us — 24 hours, every single weekend!
