Perdue Driver Killed After Truck Goes Over Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel

A 61-year-old truck driver has died after his tractor-trailer went over the guardrail and into the water along the southbound span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel near Fisherman’s Island early Sunday morning.

Authorities identified the driver as Ronnie Andrews of Robersonville, North Carolina. He was operating a tractor-trailer for Perdue Farms at the time of the crash. Officials confirmed no other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Emergency crews, including marine units, responded to the scene. The bridge-tunnel experienced lane closures while crews assessed damage to the guardrail and roadway. Investigators stated that weather was not believed to be a contributing factor.

The crash remains under investigation.

Prayers and condolences to the driver’s family, coworkers, and everyone impacted by this tragic loss.
