Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation: What is it, what causes it, and how can you get rid of it?
PIH is a melanin response to an injury or inflammation. The overproduction of melanin is triggered by the way that the skin heals following an injury. Injuries aren’t limited to actual wounds you may have gotten, the most common “injury” that causes PIH is 💥ACNE💥 even moreso, when you pick at a blemish or pop a pimple, you’re causing additional stress to the skin and greatly increasing your chances of getting those dark spots left behind long after the pimple has disappeared.
PIH can appear as flat red, pink, or brown spots and is more frequently seen on women, especially those with a darker complexion.
How can you lighten those pesky dark spots? My go-to treatment is a series of enzyme peels with lactic, mandelic and glycolic acids. What do YOU need? Are you taking care of yourself the way you should? Physically, spiritually, emotionally, are you cared for? I’ve been learning a lot about self care this month and have found that it can come in so many forms. A little quiet time, a treat you’ve been wanting, a good cry, a long vent session, putting a bit of effort into your appearance, letting go of old habits and bad energy.. My work is very emotional for me, I put my all into each facial- whether it’s all of my comfort and nurturing and calm or if it’s my happiness and laughter, I’m giving it all fully to each client. I’ve had a lot of new clients this year say that they’ve decided to start taking care of the person who most often gets neglected - themselves. So they’re having a spa day or they’re finally going to try and get the clear skin they’ve wanted. I’m so fortunate and have been feeling so empowered by knowing that I’m playing a part in someone taking care of themselves. It’s so important. So tell me- what do YOU need?
