Why is homecare important?
First of all, research has shown that the baby boomers population is on the increase in U.S. Due to one health problem or the other, most of them need medical or non medical care.
As a result of the increasing cost of health-care, most of them choose the option of homecare. Aside the high cost of health-care, most seniors want to get care in the very comfort of their homes. With this option, they now have their independence intact while still getting care.
Another reason why homecare is important is that, it provides their family members the opportunity to take a short break from giving care when it becomes overwhelming for them. When they are done, they come back recharged and energized.
Sometimes, family members live far off from their senior loved ones who live by themselves in their retirement homes or in assisted or independent living facilities. They tend to get lonely and in order to alleviate this loneliness, family members now hire a care giver who provides companionship service by interacting and exchanging life experiences and engaging them in things that interest them such as playing games with them, taking a walk, going for grocery shopping etc.
Studies have also shown that the demand for services of the caregiver will continuously be on the increase as long as the baby boomers population is on the increase.
In consideration of the above facts, the role of caregivers in the society cannot be overemphasized. Put differently, caregivers are not going away anytime soon. They have come to stay due to the vital role they play in lives of seniors.
